The observant among you will have noticed the Master Fixtures list has been posted on the Board's site.

I'm with you on that Ryot. I think October Finals are too late, when Offaly hurlers will finish the Christy Ring campaign in June. It is likely the footballers will exit the championships in June/July.
April is designated as a club month, yet there will be no significant increase in club games, compared to years prior to allocating April for county championship matches. The ordinary club player has to wait until the county teams exit the national competitions.
I also feel that we should just have semi finals, and a county final, no quarter finals.

Cant have county finals too early as then the county champions are left waiting for first round of leinster. Ideally county final would be player two weeks prior to the 1st round of leinster championship.

Would some Pre-Season games not be useful, in the month or so before the Leagues start. It might get teams started and ready for the Leagues and thus the Leagues might get a bit more competitive and respected,,,,,,,,,,,,, A Senior, Inter & Junior in hurling & Football, alternative wee-ends, if need be.

Of course such pre-season games, during National League time, would be for club only players and could also give game time to lads on county panels, not making that week-ends match day panels...

A few cups would not cost the CB a lot and could be named after people who gave great service to Offaly, like the late Jimmy Hanlon (RIP), Johnny Egan, Sean Foran or hurling men like Billy Michelle or Jimmy Flaherty who was a noted ref.

Getting playable pitches at the moment is a big problem. I'd say there aren't too many that could take a match right now.

Going on the recent club championships, completed a week or two before provincial club fixtures, Offaly teams exited in the first round.
Why not have county finals in September, all the celebrations would be well over before the Leinster club games. The All Ireland Finals are played in Mid August, and the first weekend in September.

1) Ferbane:

Key men: Cian Johnson, Joe Maher, Leon fox.
Possess two deadly forwards and a team that has known nothing only winning from a young age. Well balanced and determined. Looking to secure back to back titles and cement their status as number 1 in offaly.

2) Rhode:
Key men: Niall Mcnamee, anton Sullivan, Niall Darby.
A wounded dog. Rhode will feel they left behind the Dowling last year and with their best player back for the 2020 campaign will expect redemption. They are a credit to the county and have been dominant since 2004 and are always challenging.

3) Edenderry:

Key men: Sean Doyle, Cian Farrell, Jordan Hayes.
Serious contenders. Can beat anyone on their day. The problem ‘on their day’ . Don’t deal with favourites tag well. The club seems to be doing a lot right, exciting young talent as well.

4) Shamrocks:
Key men: Nigel Dunne, Patrick Dunican, Jack Bryant.

These guys are a team that if they click can beat anyone. They are capable of winning a championship. They always have a chance with Dunne, and now he has sufficient help, it's exciting for them.

5) Tullamore
Key men: Johnny Maloney, Michael Brazil, Paul mcconway.
Last year was a poor one for the town. They will be looking to be playing deep into this year’s championship. Too many good players. Too much tradition. Feels strange to suggest dark horses. Dangerous this year.

6) Clara
Key men: Scott Brady, Thomas Deehan, Carl Stewart.
Their best players are old in age but still top performers, are able for a one of sting, this may be the final kick and push for these men.

7) Cappincur
Key men: eoin Carrol, Jason gethings, peter daly
Got to the quarter final last year without winning a game, went the whole championship without a win. They are a very decent side. Probably lacking a few players to make them truly competitive in the seior ranks. Capable of upsets.

8. Bracknagh

Key men: Peter cunnigham, robin galbrith, mikey cunnigham.
Will relish the return to senior. A brilliant 2019 will give them confidence, the lack of overall quality could be exposed , very formidable opposition when they click.

There is a county board meeting tonight to finalise and ratify the championship structures for 2020. Here's a condensed version:

Football- From Senior to Junior A all competitions have 8 teams divided into 2 groups of 4. You play everyone in your own group. Top 2 teams in each group go to semi-finals and bottom team in each group enters relegation final. Competitions run off over 11 weeks

Senior Group 1 - Ferbane, Edenderry, Shamrocks, Bracknagh

Senior Group 2 - Rhode, Clara, Tullamore, Cappincur

Early County Final Prediction - Ferbane vs Edenderry

Senior B Group 1 - Gracefield, Tubber, Shannonbridge, Erin Rovers

Senior B Group 2 - Ballycumber, Durrow, Walsh Island, Ferbane

Early County Final Predcition - Tubber vs Durrow

Intermediate Group 1 - Clonbollogue, Kilcormac/Killoughey, St Brigid's, Doon

Intermediate Group 2 - Raheen, St Rynagh's, Ballycommon, Clodaigh Gaels

Early County Final Prediction - Clonbollogue vs Ballycommon

Junior Group 1 - Ballinagar, Daingean, Kilclonfert, Kinnitty

Junior Group 2 - Clara, Tullamore, Rhode, Edenderry

Early County Final Prediction - Daingean vs Kilclonfert

Hurling championships from Senior A to Intermediate are taking on the same format and there will be seeded draws tonight. The seeding in the draws means that each group will have a county finalist from last year, a beaten semi -finalist from last year, a beaten quarter-finalist from last year and team that got promoted/relegated.

So for example in Senior A, Birr and St Rynaghs will be in different groups, as will Belmont and Kilcormac /Killoughey, as will Coolderrry and Shinrone and as will Seir Kieran and Ballinamere.

Early County Final prediction - St Rynaghs vs Belmont

In Senior B the seeded draw means Kinnitty and Clodaigh Gaels will be kept part, as will Carrig and Riverstown and Lusmagh, as will Drumullen and Tullamore and as will Kilcoramac / Killoughey and Clara

Early County Final Prediction - Clodaigh Gaels vs Kinnitty

Finally there will be no relegation from Senior A to Senior B in hurling this year. The two teams who make the Senior B final will be promoted to Senior A for 2021 to make a 10 team championship.

Senior A

Group 1 - Birr, Kilcormac/Killoughey, Coolderry, Seir Kieran

Group 2 - St Rynaghs, Belmont, Shinrone, Ballinamere

I actually can't wait for this year's championship. Every game will have something riding on it not like the farcical competition of the last couple of years.

Senior B

Group 1 - Clodiagh Gaels, Carrig and Riverstown, Tullamore, Clara

Group 2 - Kinnitty, Lusmagh, Drumcullen, Kilcormac/Killoughey,

Group 2 here looks the trickier of the two. Kinnitty would need to be careful not to take any team for granted and approach the year in the same way as Seir Kieran did last year. Great opportunity for Carrig and Riverstown to make a semi-final again here with Tullamore and Clara having a serious dual focus.
