Yes – from memory it wasn’t pretty and certainly uncompromising
Open to correction and hard to believe (Plain of the Herbs) but this was the first silverware for the Offaly Senior footballers since the 82 All Ireland
The following week the footballers again beat Meath in Navan in the league with 4 sent off and mini skirmishes on the terraces to complement the on-field activity!
Most of that Meath team won a Leinster and AI in 96 (Mayo row!) with Offaly beating them in the Leinster final of 97

Yes, the 1993 O’Byrne Cup win would have been the first Senior silverware won since 1982. But back then, the only opportunities to win a trophy were the All-Ireland, the Leinster, the League final and the O’Byrne cup. There were no league divisional trophies, like there are today. Not that it would have mattered as Offaly found themselves mired in the horrible division 3 North for much of the intervening period.

The Meath team beaten by Offaly in that 1993 O’Byrne Cup final was: - Mickey McQuillan; Kevin Macken, Enda McManus, Martin O’Connell; Graham Geraghty, Kevin Foley, Ronan McGrath; John McDermott, Alan Browne, Jody Devine, PJ Gilic, Colm Coyle; Terry O’Connor, Cathal Sheridan, Tommy Dowd. Subs used were Tom Halpin, Trevor Kane and Liam Harnan, while Robbie O’Malley, Brendan Reilly and Brian Stafford were late withdrawals.

The Meath team for the following Sunday’s league battle was:- McQuillan; Robbie O’Malley, McManus, Foley; Geraghty, Harnan, O’Connell; McDermott, Browne; Reilly, Gillic, Adrian O’Halloran; Sheridan, Stafford, Dowd.
