Shinrone v Coolderry - I did a preview piece before the championship started on this thread and I predicted a final of Kilcormac / Killoughey vs Shinrone, partly because I thought Shinrone might finally make a burst and also because I wanted to break from the norm. Well it's sh*t or get off the pot this weekend for Shinrone. There was no shame in their 2 losses pre break as they played 2 serious teams but to get their season on track they really have to win at the weekend. But make no mistake about it if Coolderry played Shinrone 10 times they would expect to win all 10. Just because it's desperation times for Shinrone I'll give them a hesitant nod. However if it doesn't happen expect to see them in the relegation final.

Birr v Ballinamere - Ballinamere to put up the same sort of performance they did vs Coolderry and be really in the game. However Birr to win. Ballinamere's big games are rounds 4 and 5.

St Rynaghs v Belmont - Very hard to see Belmont win this one without Oisin Kelly and Colin Egan. Even if Rynagh's are missing some players as Shannonbanks has stated they should have adequate strength in depth to win this and put one foot in the semi-finals.

Kilcormac / Killoughey vs Kinnitty - According to Paddypower Kilcormac / Killoughey are 1/8 while Kinnitty are massive 9/2 outsiders. Not much more needs to be said. Double K's by double figures.

Fair play to Shinrone. Frank, why the need for the hesitation?
They’ve set out their stall now. That being said, knockout hurling is where it’s at. Then, and only then will we see how things truly are, not doubting them, it’s the same for all clubs.

Kinnitty supposedly completely dominated the first half and should have had half a dozen more scores by half time. Could they nick a couple of points along the way?

That being said, was at neither game, hope to get to a couple tomorrow. Probably the games in Birr.

Ballinamere have now conceded 12 goals in 3 championship matches - difficult to see them winning any games with such a concession rate.
Next game against Kinnity is vital to their survival chances.

Just got to one game at the weekend and can I just say for a man of 42 years of age Brian Mullins performs at such a high level.
His penalty save was spectacular and changed the flow of the game.
Very open championship this year.

Excellent performance by Shinrone. Backs totally wiped out Coolderry forwards in first half. Entire team was top class on the ball, physical and aggressive.

Terribly naive defending by Coolderry for the first goal when the entire defence followed the Shinrone forwards out to midfield for the throw in. Shinrone broke at pace following the throw in and no defenders were at home. Obviously a pre-designed move but can't believe Coolderry fell for it.

Was at the Grand Canal derby on Sunday in Birr.
Belmont missing 4 key players in Oisín Kelly, Colin Egan, Mark Egan and Liam Browne, while Rynagh’s were missing 4/5 starters from last year: Dermot Shortt, Pat Camon, Danny Maloney, Simon Óg Lyons and Ronan Hughes.

Game only sparked into life near the end where a row broke out. Belmont were 4 or 5 up, had it won. One individual thought that he would throw himself about in it, pulled a stroke on a St Rynagh’s player, himself got pummelled to the ground by Garry Conneely, and shortly after was sent off. To my amazement, some supporters were actually giving out about why he was sent off. He pulled a dirty stroke. I’ve since heard that a Rynagh’s player had his hand and nose broken in the game.

Anyway, the Rynagh’s got themselves fired up, managed to equalise, Belmont went a point up, I think it was Stephen Quirke got a super score from the right wing to equalise. Then in the dying embers of the game, a glorious opportunity presented itself to Mattie Maloney, it went to the left and wide.

Overall, it was a poor game, even if it had a few goals. It was clear that both sides were short regulars. Belmont probably deserved it, given their dominance in the second half, but they thought the fracas would waste time, when really, it got Rynagh’s revved up. It really is hard to tell where they’re at, given the shortage of regulars on both sides.

As for the Senior B game, was in late enough for it, as Kerry and Mayo were on the box. I won’t comment as I didn’t see the full game.

I heard there were a few incidents ok, a neutral described it along the lines you stated, a Belmont view point was a wee bit tinted he told me...he told me if they played out the match properly as they were going they would have won..both will take the point for the draw no doubt to keep them top...

Only getting around to this now.

I was very impressed with how Shinrone went about their business on Saturday. They were energetic, forceful and basically bullied Coolderry for most of the game. Shinrone came to make a statement. I was very impressed with the speed with which they broke from defence, offloading the ball to a runner (very un-Offaly, that). Their touch was superb. They went long when it was the right thing to do, too. And their tackling was forceful.

Their record against Coolderry is poor, it was only their third time ever to enjoy a win over their neighbours. They could have did the Offaly thing of going through the motions, but they didn’t. They went for the kill, an early goal was a tonic start and had the game all but sewn up by half-time.

Their next game will reveal more about them. Was it an angry, once off performance? Or will they keep up the momentum? That’s up to themselves. Keep it up and they are title contenders.

The weekend ticket allowed me go to see Belmont and St Rynagh’s at no extra cost. These two certainly went through the motions, until the row arose.

Belmont’s absentees were more significant that their oppositions. So with that in mind, Belmont were impressive. David Kenny did a lot of ball winning and distribution from centre half-forward, David Nally and Alan Egan were full of energy on either side of midfield. Joe Maher caused the opposition several problems in the front line of the attack, and I was fierce impressed with the pace and energy of Cathal Flynn. Belmont have a lot of potential.

We didn’t really learn anything about St Rynagh’s. With several regulars to return, no one put their hands up for inclusion in September. Stephen Quirke should have been on sooner. Or started. And they don’t keep possession the way they used to.

The row was nasty and, end of the day, lads have to go to work the next day. Just a pity it took such an unsavoury incident to give us the electrifying finish to the game

Coolderry v St Rynaghs
Coolderry very poor the last day - I expect Rynaghs to win by 5
Coolderry 1-15 St Rynaghs 1-20

Birr v Shinrone
Can Shinrone put 2 performances back to back? Birr will carry a bigger goal scoring threat than Coolderry did. I expect Birr to win by 3 points.
Birr 3-15 Shinrone 1-18

Ballinamere v Kinnitty
Massive game for both teams. Expect it to be low scoring with Kinnitty just holding on to win by 2 points
Ballinamere 1-13 Kinnitty 2-12

K/K v Belmont
Game of the weekend, KK to win by 2 points
KK 2-16 Belmont 2-14

My predicitons for weekend Senior A are: Coolderry V Rynaghs : Coolderry 2-15 St. Rynaghs 1-20 (Coolderry need a win so not ruling them out getting their act together either, on form, Rynaghs should have enough to get over this game)
Birr V Shinrone: Birr 3-15 Shinrone 2-18 (Shinrone, can they get back to back results, let alone wins? they would take a point out of this game any other year - a point after beating coolderry last day would be steady progress)
Ballinamere V Kinnity: Ballinamere 1-15 Kinnity 0- I3 think Ballinamere forwards will score enough to win)
Bemont V K/K: Belmont 2-20 Kilcormac 2-17 (provided Belmont hurl for the majority of the game against Rynaghs, they should have the scoring power, if they go down the physical side of things with K/K, the latter will have the craft and calmness to come out the other end with a win) but Belmont SHOULD win.

Birr have a very depleted team this week shinrone should take that one If they are half decent at all.
St.Rynaghs will be too strong for Coolderry
Kk should beat Belmont
While I will go with a kinnitty win b B/D

Was at 3 Games over weekend..all very similar standard (not brilliant).. Rynaghs got over a Coolderry side who at times looked like they had the winning of the game and then went way off mark, Rynaghs probably deserved to win this game, Shinrone had the beating of Birr all through but were shy in putting them away, and Birr could have caught them, but again best team won.. Shinrone have a great half back line able to come up and score too.. Belmont V Kk.. tight game, underlying niggle all through, three throw ins in the same area of pitch connected to same incident eventually blew up into a disgraceful mass brawl, Killian Kiley amazingly was the only player to be red carded, he may not complain about his red card maybe, I don't know, but more should definitely have followed him, one player running over and into the brawl and swinging punches and no sanction, not even a a yellow card to him or possibly many more was very questionable, Belmont hadn't the impact subs KK had and by games end were deserving winners..Balliamere got over Kinnitty by a point..
