I see Kildare make 8 changes from team that eased to win over Carlow. Only 4 players from starting team V Kerry in Super 8's, and I think 5 or 6 of this years U20 All ireland winners start. So very experimental from Kildare.
Hope Offaly go with the team they proposed for last week, it included at least one player each from Daingean, Kilclonfert, Ballycommon & Cappincur who were on the multiple U21 winning St.Vincents team, nice tie-in.

Hanlon didn’t play for Edenderry last year , Farrell is good yes but who do you replace him for?

Offaly 0-11 Kildare 1-20

More telling, Half -Time OY 0-04 KE 1-14
Can't say men against boys as both sides looked the same, Kildare had a lot of U20s on show.
Better movement, better game plan and some better players. Second half was disjointed as the visitors mada a raft of changes as the match was over as a contest.
Hard to know what to make of Offaly after that. Was this was supposed to be the best of the untapped talent we have in Offaly?
I see a lot of posts on Facebook and such recently about 1982 and wishing the 'glory' days would return. At the minute 'never' looks like an option.

Forget about managers, and style of play, and heart, and Offaly fighting spirit...If you don't have players as good as the opposition you have no chance.
Realism is required, not just in Offaly but plenty of neighbouring counties as well.

Tiered championship badly needed. No point in having intermediate teams trying to play senior.

Kildare lost to Division 4 Carlow in the championship last year, so it's not as simple as that.

One off results will happen. Carlow lost their next outing by 10 points.
Tiered is the way to go.

Yes, sorry. Lost to Tyrone in knockout by 10 points. But Carlow are very competitive with the likes of laois, Offaly, westmeath, longford etc. Be a hugely competitive championship. The way the league s are so close and equal.

Agree or not w a tiered championship, this is certainly hard to argue with.
Kevin Clancey. Signed out of respect for players and all involved with Offaly.

Probably the wrong thread to talk about club rankings.

Probably. Tullamore are definitely at 2, they had Rhode rattled in the semi final.
Gracefield are the sort of team that could do anything, from a relegation battle to a semi final.
I think the bottom three’s survival chances are relatively equal. If Ruairí Allen returns, Gracefield will stay up. I think that they’ll stay up.
Good Luck

Westmeath and Offaly play out entertaining draw in the O'Byrne Cup

Westmeath 0-11 Offaly 0-11

A fine point deep into added-time from arguably the best player on show, Westmeath’s Paddy Fagan, earned his side a deserved draw against Offaly in an entertaining O’Byrne Cup encounter played in reasonably pleasant conditions at St Loman’s Lakepoint Park in Mullingar this afternoon.
There was very little between the teams in a hard-fought first half where the midland rivals shared just three wides - two of them by the home side - and at the end of which the visitors led by 0-6 to 0-4. Four of Offaly’s points came from placed balls – two each from Bernard Allen (the first after he had claimed a mark) and Shane Tierney. For Westmeath, lively wing forward Fagan scored a fine brace from open play.
With both of their interval subs, Ger Egan and Ronan O’Toole, regularly to the fore, four unanswered points in the third quarter – the best of them from powerful centre half back Kieran Martin in the 52nd minute – put Jack Cooney’s men ahead by 0-8 to 0-6. However, a quality brace in quick succession from impressive corner forward Allen and a converted free by Tierney soon edged John Maughan’s troops ahead. It looked like Tierney’s fourth successful free in 68th minute had nudged Offaly over the line until Egan teed up Fagan for a last-gasp equaliser.
Scorers
Westmeath: P Fagan 0-4, R O’Toole 0-3 (1f), K Martin 0-2 (1f), J Maxwell, G Egan (f) each.
Offaly: B Allen 0-5 (3f), S Tierney 0-4 (4f), N Darby, A Sullivan 0-1 each.
Westmeath: E Carberry; N O’Reilly, R Wallace, K Daly; S Duncan, K Martin, D Lynch; S Flanagan, N Mulligan; A McGivney, C McCormack, P Fagan; J Maxwell, J Halligan, T McDaniel. Subs: G Egan for McGivney (h-t), R O’Toole for McDaniel (h-t), G Leech for McCormack (44), D Giles for Maxwell (45), S Pettit for Flanagan (51), B Sayeh for Daly (69), N Cully for Mulligan (70).
Offaly: B Rohan; D Hogan, D Dempsey, E Rigney; C Donohoe, P McConway, J O’Connor; C Mangan, A Leavy; N Bracken, A Sullivan, N Darby; B Allen, J Moloney, S Tierney. Subs: M Abbott for Bracken (51), C Horan for Mangan (51), K Higgins for Leavy (60), C Carroll for Sullivan (70).
Ref: D Fedigan (Louth).

Maughan complaining about players not wanting to play for Offaly yet one of the best young players in the country is sitting at home in Ferbane and he is doing nothing about it. Plus there’s 2/3 more u20s better than what the seniors have at the minute
