Friday 27th July: Shinrone v Kinnitty: Shinrone to win but there wont be too much in it. They are going well and showing the potential everyone taught they might have. Big names like Del and Sean Cleary are performing. Conor Doughan back in the team will only strengthen things.

Saturday 28th July: Clareen v Kilcormac-Killoughey at Kinnitty at 7.30pm - KK by 3 points. Return of the missing players from Rynaghs will strengthen things for KK. KK didn't do too bad consiering the names they where missing the last day. Clareen aren't considered to be going well but still have 4 points. The win against Kinitty the last day was huge. Can see them picking up a result in one of the next 3 games but not this one.

Sunday 28th July: Coolderry v Birr at Rath at noon - Tightest game of the weekend. Could swing either way. Going to go for Coolderry. Joachim will have them well tuned in for this game as a semi final spot is in touching distance.

Sunday 28th: St Rynagh’s v Belmont at Lusmagh at 1.30pm -Agree that Rynaghs are the team to beat but it wasn't the best of performances against KK neither. It's a big game for Belmont. Sitting in 5th position, a win would put them in 2nd or 3rd and a loss could have them in 7th.

Shinrone v Kinnitty : A potential bannana skin for shinrone if they have improved at all they should win this.
Clareen v kk; big game for both teams you would have to fancy kk.
Coolderry v Birr: Birr have to be winning this if they fancy themselves as title contenders.

Awful game of hurling tonight in coolderry. Draw match. 2 very poor teams.

A strange type of game in Coolderry earlier. Both with tactical variations, two-man full-forward lines, three in midfield, making for a crowded middle third on a relatively short pitch. Kinnitty made changes, Keith Bergin in goals, Shane Kinsella at centre half-back, James Dempsey at full-forward, Colm Coughlan as a third midfielder. Conor Doughan started for Shinrone, to Dónal Morkan’s exclusion.

Kinnitty were first to depart from the middle-third stodge, sending the ball direct to Dempsey and Odhrán Kealey, with the latter picking off anumber of points, Shinrone opting to keep just two men back. Kinnitty held a deserved 0-11 to 0-7 half-time lead.

Green and White extended that lead to 0-16 to 0-8, with Kinsella showing well at centre half-back. Panicked, Shinrone abandoned the gameplan, played the ball much more directly, a change that paid off. With Shinrone scoring regularly and Kinnitty pucking out just as regularly, Shinrone’s half-back line were dominant, and the changes Kinnitty made in their half-forward line didn’t help them. The Doughans, Michael Cleary, Mark Morkan and Derek Morkan were Shinrone’s launch pad, Seán Cleary also doing well in a roving role, though their forwards only intermittently sparked.

But though Shinrone reduced the gap to 0-17 to 0-18 with seven or eight minutes left, it was into stoppage time before they levelled. Shinrone then went ahead, but Kinsella drove upfield to draw a foul and Coughlan pointed the resultant free for a deserved draw.

The mainstream media are praising Shinrone on twitter for their draw, but I beg to differ. It’s Shinrone’s third draw, they blew it against Rynagh’s when they led all the way, they blew It against Coolderry when they dominated possession but couldn’t get over the line, and they blew it here when they took too long to finally draw level, with an absolute monopoly of possession. Really, not much has changed. They’ve Kilcormac next too.

For Kinnitty, I expect they will win a match before long more. Maybe next day against Coolderry; or maybe the relegation Final. But soon.

I have to disagree with Chimbonda here. I thought it was quite a good game. Really tricky conditions (when is the last time the players would have played in the rain?) with the ball travelling a mile over the greasy surface. Tough, physical encounter with no quarter asked or given and some excellent scores taken. Shane Kinsella's point was worth the admission fee alone.

POTH's summary of events pretty much nails it on the head. Kinnitty for two-thirds of the game were by far the better team and the game swung on a great save by Conor Cleary when faced with a one on one with Eoghan Callaghan which would have put Kinnitty 1-18 to 0-13 ahead and that would have been all she wrote. The save however seemed to lift Shinrone while at the same time deflate Kinnitty and Shinrone hit 0-06 on the spin but Kinnitty equalised with the last puck.

Kinnitty will probably waken up absolutely sickened this morning and really they should have enough guile at this stage to put the game to bed when leading 0-16 to 0-8 after 40 minutes. It was this rather than any great hurling from Shinrone that got them back into the game. Shinrone as POTH has stated are the same as ever and their season will end in one of 2 ways: 1) A Q-Final defeat or 2) They will lose their last two games and end up in relegation final.

Finally someone mentioned here after the last game that Shinrone were very lippy - I don't know if he was referencing players or fans but some of their supporters last night were an absolute disgrace and this is not the first time I've heard it with them. Now, don't get me wrong, EVERY club has them but Shinrone seem to have more than most. What would they be like if they ever won something???

Fair play to Kinnity a proud little hurling parish, this was bscks to the wall stuff for them.
Clareen will give similar trouble to the kks this weekend.

Coolderry moving well vs birr. Big win. Belmont in a spot of bother with defeat vs rynaghs

after games of weekending Sunday 28th July, St. Rynaghs, Coolderry and KK appear to be the main contenders at this juncture of the competition, hard to see any of the others, Clareen struggling abit, Belmont have fell flat (again) after shooting the lights out in the early stages, is the dual factor such a big thing one wonders, Shinrone would be there or thereabouts with say Clareen maybe..Birr had a bad day at the office versus Coolderry...

you would want a degree in IT to find your way around this site...any wonder it is not being used too much...too much clicking and trying to figure out where exactly you want to be on it...not user friendly...

Now that the Leinster Club championship draws have been made and scheduled, and the Senior A hurling champions will play on Sunday November 4th, with the Senior A football winners playing in Leinster on Sunday 28th October, can we take it the Senior A football Final will be on Sunday 7th October and the Senior A hurling Final on Sunday 14th October? (the master fixtures list left this open when it was drafted back in January.)

Seems perfectly feasible POTH. I always prefer an earlier hurling final though as pitch conditions haven’t deteriorated to such an extent that it can actually benefit a team to play in heavier conditions.

Also has anyone any idea how long of a gap there will be between Round 7 and the county semi-finals? A 4 week wait wouldn’t be much of a reward for finishing 1st or 2nd. Ideally I’d like to see Q-Finals 2 weeks after Round 7 and the semi—finals one week after that. I don’t know how that would fit in with the football schedule though.

Tank, hurling's round 7 is scheduled for the week ending Sunday 26th August, with football's equivalent a week later (Sunday 2nd September).

Hurling quarter-finals are stated for two weekends (w/e 9th and 16th September), with the football semi-finals scheduled for w/e 16th September. Semi-finals are scheduled for w/e 23rd and 30th September, with no distinction between hurling and football on the mater plan. Supposing the hurling semi-finals was to be on the 30th September (the later of the two weekends, in keeping with a similar schedule for the finals), it would leave a five week gap between hurling's round 7 and the semi-finals.

But that's all supposin', supposin'.

A 5 week gap? Brian Cody perfected that wait between Leinster Finals and All Ireland Semis with Kilkenny but would be very difficult for Joachim Kelly et al to do it with club teams. I’d nearly take my chances in the Quarters!

Cody had 32 high quality players. With probably 22-24 having a realistic chance of starting. Very few club teams can create this environment!
