absolutely no disrespect to the Senior B teams but barring the most fanatical fan, who is going to go early to see a Senior B QF before a Senior A, and as happens with Senior A, more than likely the crowd at the first game will leave immediately after their game if they have any distance at all to travel, I think if the two Senior A's were played as a double header and the 2 Senior B's, fans attending each grade might stay to watch the other as they might be potentially meeting them in a later round..you would wonder who sits down and thinks out the fixtrure listing etc...

The St Rynagh's v Shinrone quarter-final seems to be fixed for Saturday 8th at 5.30pm in Birr, with Brian Gavin refereeing. Belmont v Birr is down for Sunday 9th at 4pm in Bord na Móna Park, with Kieran Pat Kelly refereeing.

The relegation final is a week later, Clareen v Kinnitty on Saturday 15th at 4.30pm in Birr.

All Senior hurling semi-finals since 2010 have been double headers. These have tended to attract crowds in excess of 4,000 (that last year's didn't was due to bad weather on the day). I would be surprised if they split the Senior A semi-finals, and I would expect a double header in Tullamore. The reason the two Senior A quarter-finals are split is that, while St Rynagh's and Shinrone are playing theirs in Birr, it was hardly fair to ask Belmont to face Birr on their own club ground.

At this stage, we could do with confirmation of the weekends of the Senior A and B semi-finals and finals. We could also do with finding out whether the semi-final draws are seeded or not.

Cheers POTH.
To be fair Rynagh’s had no qualms playing Birr in Birr, and on the day Birr were better and won.
That result cost them an automatic semi final place, but to be fair, they didn’t complain.
Good Luck

And if St. Rynagh's were happy to do so, more luck to them. That doesn't suddenly put an onus on every other club to do the same.

i never said any club had too...but considering every county final was played there for years and years along with the fact Tullamore play in OCP there is no reason clubs shouldnt hurl Birr in SBP. Specially considering the level the venue is at towards other grounds.

OCP is the county ground, and as Tullamore will tell you, their home ground is O'Brien Park - though obviously there are geographical advantages to them in playing across the road. But they aren't playing league matches, challenge matches and training there, in the same way that Birr can in SBP.

Other than that, I think we're broadly in agreement - that SBP is a very suitable venue for a game like this, but that no team should be forced to play Birr there in a "neutral" championship match if they don't want to.

Belmont would probably draw more support from the general Banagher/Lusmagh area if played in Birr, barring a fanatical Gael, if Rynaghs play Shinrone in Birr on Sat evening, they are not going to hop into their cars on the Sunday and go through the misery that is getting in and out of O'Connor Park. I would give Belmont a greater chance if played in Birr believe it or not. The referee mentioned elsewhere in the Birr/Belmont game works/based in Belmont, surely a ref from the other end of the county should be refereeing this game, not that it would be any different but just to keep everything looking crystal clear. Its been done backways of course, the game venue is in the other end of the county and the referee is from the same jurisdiction of the two teams and is based workwise involving one of the clubs...might sound petty but if its a close game people will see things as they want at the final whistle..shouldn't be that way...

there is..let teams from up Birr/Banagher/Shinrone/Belmont even play their games in Birr...no financial benefit to the businesses in Tullamore people racing out the gate and gone to avoid the agony of queing in traffic for half an hour to get back somewhere near the Mucklagh side of Tullamore, then add another 30-45 minutes on to that...many don't bother as a result...OCP might be the county ground but you will get more people to go to hurling matches in Birr...

The misery has now turned into agony for this poor soul. Oh the humanity!
