If you think that's the right direction you must not be tuned in too much....The pitch will be in some state this weekend from the double header.

I don't know what all the OY whinging is about on the likelihood of a heavy pitch at OCP. Laois are the more skilful team and conditions on Sunday should suit this top heavy OY team. The hurlers are no longer in Offaly, and having to go back and use the likes of Mahon and Currams speaks of the poverty....both are fine as winter or club hurlers, they will make zero impact in the summer. There is no guarantee that Laois will get out of the round robin(I rate Westmeath ahead of LS and OY), I do fear OY in Leinster, bar the Dublin game, this squad for ripe for 3 hammerings and that Dublin league win may prove to be a false dawn. Should be some good skelping on Sunday.
I do note a trend emerging....in all the LS league games, bar the OY one last year, laois had a player sent off....Offaly had 2 sent off against LS in portlaois. I notice OY have had men sent off in their last two games. Many of these sending offs have been marginal calls, I think the refs consider it easier to pull the red cards for the lower level tiers teams like LS and OY than the top tier teams. Heffernan an up and coming Wexford ref is in charge, he is known to be card happy...hope he does not ruin the show.

I think that you’re being a bit harsh on Currams and Mahon. Currams is better than a fine club hurler. Mahon serves a purpose at FF. The more ball drove into him, the more mayhem he’ll cause.
I wouldn’t call us top heavy.
I wouldn’t be so pessimistic on our prospects in Leinster.

I heard that the CB insisted on a cut on the panel. Heard that Conor Clancy was dropped, as the CB insisted that only 2 keepers were allowed. I feel that he didn’t get a fair opportunity at it.
Any others dropped, he’s the only one that I heard of.

Can’t say I’m surprised to hear that. The county board love keeping the cheque book in the pocket. There will never be any hope for this county when you have the county board there not willing to spend. I’m not sure how many are on the panel at the moment so we’ll just say 40 which may be 3 or 4 over the actual number but it’s not like they have to pay expenses of 60 or 70 players like Dublin and Cork are doing. We have a small pick and we need everyone we can and by the management being FORCED to drop players just because of a few hundred euro expenses is it any wonder lads won’t want to hurl with the county. We have the strongest group of players in the county panel for 5 years or more and there is a genuine wish for them to hurl with pride and heart which they are infairness to them but they have to be looked after properly and it has to work both ways.

He walked off the panel....I don't have much time for the county board but if your going to post here please have the facts correct.

Heard it from a Rynaghs lad who’d be in the know. He’s fairly reliable with information.

I just find it hard to believe. He’s based within the county, as a games development officer with the CB.
It would be more understandable if he wasn’t working in the county, even if he was working working within the county, but the fact that he’s a games development with the CB. I just find it hard to believe.

Briefly.

A match Offaly simply MUST win. A win will ensure a quarter-final place with a round to spare. It takes certain qualities to run All-Ireland champions to 11 points – it will take different qualities to get a win on Sunday.

A bit of a hoo-haah in Laois – led by Páraic Lodge and Jack Nolan, they would prefer to play AFTER the football. They hardly appreciate the skills of hurling if they would sooner play in February AFTER a football match. Still, it seems likely the umbridge taken by Laois will be brought with them to Bord na Móna Park on Sunday. Offaly must be ready.

Still, the dry and drying weather of the week past is beneficial, and it looks set to continue until Sunday. Bord na Móna Park will be in a much improved condition.

Sunday will probably see Offaly with a greater proportion of possession than they saw against either Limerick or Galway. And the Limerick and Galway games seem to have taken a similar trend -Offaly falling off after about 20 minutes. I’d like to see Offaly a bit more committed in the challenge for possession. Not necessarily going bald-headed after man and ball, but not pulling up when apparently first to the ball, leaving it to someone else either.

I’d also like to see a bit more protection for the full-back line. And opposition runners being tracked. Colin Egan should win a decent amount of Offaly’s own puckout – if Offaly can offer support to take a bass from the Belmont man, they can create good attacks. Remember last February in Portlaoise, how Offaly made decent headway during the last half an hour by running at the opposition. Neil McManus scored from nine frees against Laois – possibly Laois don’t have the discipline for continuous tackling.

A pressure game – but it is a positive pressure, and that’s what being the best that you can be entails. It appears Laois think they are better hurlers than Offaly. Only one place to answer that!

It will be a nailbiting game. Offaly to win by two, Something like 2-18 to 2-16 or thereabouts!

Job done, not pretty at times but we got the win. Bergin scores a class good, the pitch was in shocking bad order and really did help the game. We looked comfortable enough at times today and we didn’t really go full throttle

Just a couple of points on todays match.

- Wind was worth about 3/4point's,1 up at half time against it i was very confident.
- Eoghan Cahills distribution is top notch.
- Full back line seems very settled, however who do have on the bench incase one of these lads gets injured or for rotation come championship. Paddy Rigney, Enda Grogan?
-Is Pat Camon a centre back? Not overly convinced.
- David O Toole is hurling well on the wing, will he replace Shortt? Where will Sean Ryan fit in?
- Tommy Geraghty has with another fine point today.
-Joe Bergin looked very sharp today, great catch for the goal, will get better as fitness improves.
-Shane Dooley, excellent on frees and chipped in with 2 from play, like Bergin will get better with more game time.
- Conor Mahon put in a serious shift today, hes tackling and chasing down every ball was admiral he was everywhere.
-Dan Currams, put in a great shift, made some silly mistakes with passes etc.

Overall very happy with today's performance, seemed to have settled with a scoreline of 1-21 and eased off for last 15 mins. I would of liked to see us to push on and really punish Laois.

Perhaps bring in Dan Doughan to see game time and James Gorman a lot earlier than the final 5 minutes.
