Due to the fact that all the senior clubs are in action themselves, they had to play the games at the home venues for intermediate/junior clubs - and there are a limited amount of those. It wouldn't be fair to ask people from Kilcormac or Kinnitty to steward at one game while their own club is playing elsewhere.

Secondly, you won't always have neutral venues that are equidistant from the two participating sides. You'll often have games played at grounds that are closer to one side than the other, that's just the way things work out. Last time out Clareen had the advantage of playing five minutes down the road in Coolderry, while their opponents (Rynaghs) had a much longer trip. In round three, Rynaghs had the advantage of playing Tullamore in a neighbouring club ground (Moystown) while Tullamore had the longer journey - swings and roundabouts.

But you didn't say that, did you?

Training has been pared back and they are already looking towards next year lest they ruin everything and get in the way of some peoples' 'dream final'.
sam88885a wrote:St Rynagh look like clear favorites at this stage but i wonder are KK a team in decline or a team holding back till the meet St Rynagh in the semi final or final .
I think that most people want to see a St Rynagh KK final .
St Rynagh beat KK in 2015 and 2016 semi final and KK beat them in the 2012 and 2014 finals so the rivalry is huge and as a Rynaghs man told me the dream is to put titles back to back and beat KK in the final .
Poth i meant to say most neutral people would like to see St Rynagh V KK play in the knockout stages again there should be a bit to it.

Following last evening's Intermediate round 5 results, I make the IHC quarter-final pairings as follows -

Kilcormac v Brosna Gaels
Ballinamere v St Rynagh's
Clareen v Carrig
Coolderry v Drumcullen
(Kilcormac trump Ballinamere for top place on the head-to-head rule)

The quarter-finals are more than a passage to the semi-finals. They are also promotion play-offs with the winners graded Senior B next year and the losers graded Intermediate (where they will join Clara, Birr, B-K and Clodiagh). Therefore, you'd fancy Ballinamere, Carrig and Drumcullen to advance, with K-K and Brosna very much 'on the day'.

Did you see odds for the games this evening somewhere? None of the mainstream bookies have them up, on account of the fact that none of the games matter in the slightest. I'd be fascinated to see who was brave enough to offer betting on what are glorified challenge matches.

Clareen's trip to the northern regions didn't do them any harm with a comprehensive win over Tullamore tonight. Result of the night is Shinrone's one point victory over St. Rynagh's in Crinkle.
With Lusmagh losing to Kinnitty they must be relegated to Senior B for 2018, and the quarter finalists finalised.

Just on scheduling of matches over the coming weeks.

The Senior hurling championship requires three more weekends to complete (barring replays), whereas the Senior A football championship will require five weekends to complete. Also, the Senior A football champions are scheduled to play in Leinster a week before the Senior hurling winners.

Is it likely that there will be a couple of successive football weekends in order to balance the finals out?

SHC Quarter Finals:

Saturday August 26th:

Seir Kieran vs Coolderry at 4pm in St Brendan's Park

St Rynagh's vs Birr at 5:30pm in St Brendan's Park

Sunday August 27th:

Belmont vs Kinnitty at Noon in O'Connor Park

Kilcormac / Killoughey vs Shinrone at 1:30pm in O'Connor Park

Very interesting to hear, if true, that the semi-finals are returning to St Brendan's Park. A positive step in my view and was let's not forger this was a key recommendation of the Hurling Development Committee.

Appreciate that, Tank. Thank you.
(I take it the last fixture is the Senior A football final?)
