Amazing how Birr and Tellamore have two vastly different climates.

I am surprised that with all the promises made last year that the Walsh Cup game was not transferred to Rath or Banagher. I trust that the Offaly Co Board will now arrange for the Offaly v Limerick League game to be played in Birr.

Pretty disappointed that the game can't go ahead in SBP, but that's the way things go.

great to see Conor Doughlan back in, looks a good side at least unlike other years we have players playing in their right poistions. i belive k/ks Brian Leonard is also back in the squad along with Danny Kelliher. lets hope for a winning start for our new manger.

looks positive , great to see c doughan and d shortt in the half back line pity s coughlan is not there too .
glad to see b leonard j gorman and d kelliher are in the squad , pity d kilmartain and c slevin are not there also , c slevin may be able to come on board later in the spring i hear .
we were never going to have every player on board but generally most guys that have opted out under Brian Whelahan are back and C mahon j bergin and d currams will come back in to give us options in the forward line . great to see c egan back in the forward line he is one of our most important ball winners .
well done to the new managment for putting a decent panel together now next thing is to preform and get offaly supporters back behind the team.

i think p rigney and s coughlan are two of our most promising young defenders .

As you may have figured by the final score today's game in O'Connor Park was a farce. So here's the team that started and I think that's the only thing of interest from the game.

1. James Dempsey

2. Emmet Nolan
3. Chris McDonald
4. Niall Wynne

9. Shane Kinsella (sweeper)

5. Pat Camon
6. Conor Doughan
7. Dermot Mooney

8. Sean Ryan
12. Killian Kiely

10. Paddy Murphy
11. Colin Egan
14. James Mulrooney

13. Shane Dooley
15. Sean Cleary

Subs Used:
Ronan Hughes
Brian Mulrooney
Ben Conneelly
Stephen Quirke
Jason Sampson.

Interesting to note management had no issues taking off Killian Kiely after around 25 minutes. No obvious injury.

off to a winning start when was the last time we seen offaly put up such a high score have to go back to the days of the dooleys and Troy i would think, i know it was only DIT and lets be honest a club team would have gave offaly a better game, but a wins a win, i have to say all the lads gave everything today, there was great fight and heart for every player something that was missing the last few years in offaly teams. Conor Doughan what a class player, Dooley when we wants to his class, but the thing that stood out today for me was the young players, Sean Cleary caught every ball that came in high to him scored well to, Emmett Nolan back in defence where he belong's, Shane Kinsella owe the ball, Hughes and Conneely stood out when they came on and Stephen Quirke 4 points each as good as the other James Mulrooneys hat trick roll on the cats :D'

as for Kielys early call ashore it was just one of them days for the chap, he come back better of it but its good to see the manger and selectors act fast on the line.

Interesting game as it was the 1st time i've seen the team under the new manager.

The really good thing i can say Its the 1st time i've seen the sweeper system employed correctly in an offaly team.
The Offaly Sweeper Kinsella cleared everything.
The other great thing today was the work rate of the forwards.
Paddy Murphy had 4 blocks down, 2 hooks and i think i counted 5 turnovers in the 1st half, Always looking for the player in the best position when ball in hand. took his 3 points well. He did every part of the game well. he make life easier for the player around him.
the defense put some good cross field ball into the forwards.

Hard to learn anything about Offaly today. Kiely look like a lad carrying a cold.
