U21 football management 2016

Post by jimbob17 »

Has this turned into a bit of a farce. Heard it was on Newstalk this morning that Declan Kelly was appointed without consent and that he had withdrawn from position already. Can anyone confirm or what has gone on here at all? If it is true, it again portrays Offaly GAA in bad light across the media.

Boland and co are at it again. It's a shame people won't go forward against these people and get involved at board level, as long as they are in charge we will remain to be a laughing stock.

Damage control mode again.

Hopefully the situation is not too far gone.

The process was pretty advanced it seems. Hoping talks can be revived and brought to conclusion.

That is an absolute pasting. While Longford would b strong at this level, no Offaly team should take a beating like that from Longford. Were Offaly at full strength? I see we still qualify for an away semi v westmeath given we won the first two games.

That is a brilliant win,,,,

Cavan have been very strong at Under 21 level for the last 4/5 years while we have not been great.........

Hope we can carry the form through to Championship........

Obviously a healthy dose of realism is needed when looking at this win, its a pre season tournament and i would imagine that Cavan were more than likely down a few players due to college commitments and what not but at the same time it is encouraging to see in both this game and the Westmeath game how the players held their nerve in times of Difficulty.

In the Westmeath match they managed to hold on to their lead while under serious pressure in the second half ( Something which our senior side has failed to do in recent seasons) and in the Cavan game they managed to chase them down score wise despite a bad start to to win the match by converting their goal opportunities which is very encouraging

It should put some confidence in the bank for the players and if they continue to show this kind of mental resolve they might just surprise a few people this year.

Here's Hoping

Think it will fall between Ferbane, Shamrocks and St Vincents with Edenderry having an outside chance.

Shamrocks won minor 3 years ago and went on to win the Leinster minor the same year. Ferbane have won the last 2 minors including in that a Leinster title and a leinster final loss. However, some of their better players from Shannonbridge will not be with them for u21 and will play with Shannon Gaels which is an unusual situation. That said they have enough talent to be very close. St Vincents have won it the last 2 years and are going for 3 in a row. However they have not won a minor and a good proportion of last years team are overage as far as I know. They are sadly also without one of their leaders Adam Mangan (RIP) but his loss may strengthen their resolve and be a real incentive for them to win it outright. The Edenderry team lost 2 minor finals in a row (badly) but having won the senior last year a lot of them will want to line their pockets with another medal - they are good enough, just some of them lack the work-rate when it matters.

Outside of them 4, its hard to see anyone else, though Clara and Na fianna have the talent to surprise a few if they are organised and willing to go for it. Na fianna in particular should be doing better than they have been doing. St Broughans best lads and Ballycumber Tubber / Doon Erin Rovers better players are a little too young to contest this year but either could cause a surprise in earlier rounds and will be front runners for next year and year after.

On a whole, I'd be tipping Ferbane to take it home. They need to bridge the gap from minor to senior and have fell down badly at this level for a long time despite all their underage success. It's about time they started to push on contest at the higher levels.

Outside the camp maybe but based on the night's performance not really. team worked really hard and fully deserved the win.
