I would think that our issue is the levels of physicality that we bring to the game as a county.
However KK were the exception to that rule in 2012 without a doubt, especially against Oulart in the Leinster final, I remember it being something that was noticeable on the day.

I would think that across the board we have a lot of work to do and this element of the game is one that needs to be progressed in general.

Should we see if KK were doing something in training that is not been done at county level.

Winning the ball in these situations depends very much on your ability to lift/roll lift a ball at top speed. This is rarely practiced in training as it is too 'basic' and players rarely practice on their own because it is too boring and they think 'shur yeah of course I can rise a ball'. But can they rise a ball 60 times in a minute on a wet pitch? Players should be roll lifting individually, 1v1 and in 1v2 situations in training especially in preparation for this time of the year. Rucks are forming because bad weather makes your first touch sloppy, players get a better chance to spoil your attempt to win the ball and a ruck ensues.

If teams aren't practicing this then I wouldn't be too worried about standing in 1 o'clock or 3 o'clock positions because by 5 o'clock they will be at home in front of the fire for the rest of the year!

physical strength also matters in a ruck as players need to get down over the ball to ensure a clean pick up but the also need power to drive out of the ruck

physical strength really comes to the fore in the last 15/20 minutes imho

the strength and endurance needed to keep going, shipping heavy hits and making the correct decisions under pressure.

rucks forming are generally from players making an incorrect decision when on the ball

I noticed Clonkill featured a Gary Healy in goal last Sunday. Anyone know if he's the Banagher native and former St Rynagh's player?

Lusmagh face Laois Intermediate champions Trumera in the Leinster semi-final on Sunday. Fixed for Lusmagh at 2pm, anyone looking for one more hurling fix before 2015's curtain comes down is, of course, welcome to attend.

Yeah, think so

Clonkill are a serious club to hoover up new players who move to Mullingar, with contacts in about 4 football clubs
with no parish rule you could be living in Athlone and play with whoever you wanted in Mullingar

Well done to Lusmagh who made it to the Leinster junior hurling final , where they will meet Glenmore of Kilkenny who over came St.Fechins of Louth by a big margin 20 points +. Another Offaly v Kilkenny pairing at this grade again , it would be great for a small club like Lusmagh , best of luck to all involved and up the "reds".

Well done to Lusmagh, great occasion for the club to have home game like this and a big win will be a great lift for the younger players in the club.

Best of luck to Lusmagh in the final. Glenmore have tumbled down the rankings too, have they won a Senior Leinster title in the past? I think they were in a senior final?

Glenmore won the club All Ireland in '91 and you might remember Birr beating them in '99 Leinster semi.
Back then they were backboned the O'Connor, Heffernans and Mullallys, so it has been quite a fall since then.

Has anyone heard who might replace Danny Owens .
Joe dooleys and Anthony cunninghan are supposed to be two on their wish list if u listen to some kk supporters .

Who ever get the job if they can get kk back to the level they were at against ballyhale in 2014, they will be a big force over the next few years especially with players from 3 minors coming through and a team who age profile is still about 26 .
KK should be able to attract a big name

A new place for Oulart to find themselves in, having reached Leinster’s final without having beaten the Kilkenny champions (as they did in 2011, 2012 & 2013), and they are not coming in to the final on the crest of a wave. Quite the opposite, in fact, as they were little short of deplorable against Clough-Ballacolla.

Cuala are a good side but they are missing two of their half-back line now and this is bound to interfere with their belief the further they go in the championship. I wonder will they have the belief to get over the line here. Media making an issue of it being nineteen seventy-something since a Dublin club won a Leinster final. That’s a complete red herring and has nothing to do with Cuala.

Pressure off Oulart to a certain degree, and a fresh attitude (granted that’s by accident rather than by design), I expect Oulart to get over the line tomorrow.

i think Cuala will win tomorrow plain of the herbs .They have notting to loose ,2015 will be a great year for them anyway. Oulart need to be able to use the hurt from previous finals in a positive way but there much the same team that came up short before and there a few years older now too just think Cuala will have the legs on them .
