Yes he was very courageous. I didn't realise he was from Tullamore. He mentioned a couple of times that he was proud of his sporting achievements. Best of luck to him and his family.

Just checked my sources ( Pat Fenning's Sporting Memories, A Pictorial History of the Football Years) and page 77 shows that on the famous 1969 June Sunday when Offaly won 3 games in Croke Park Hugh Cooney was on the minors..... with such as Sean Lowry, Seamus Darby and Catch Buckley.
