[quote="allstar2010"]In fairness to sharp eye I think he was just pointing out that we don't have our best players on the panel for one reason or another. I don't think Danny Owens would be the answer to our managerial problems either.
I remember hearing a few years back that Francis Forde was well thought of by the players when he was involved under Baker. Why isn't he given a chance maybe and let him build a management team around him, someone with modern ideas on how the game is played is what's needed and hopefully the players will row in behind him. I suppose the county final collapse last year with rynaghs could be the one blotch on his cv that would go against him.
Would we be able to tempt the two guys that looked after the Clare u21's for the last few years, probably not. But it would be worth trying.
It would be viewed as a terrible career move by any outside manager to take over offaly right now .
U may be right that Danny Owens may not solve offalys management problems on his own but surely he should be considered as part of a management team of Francis Forde and J dunne .
D Owens and J Dunne masterminded ST Rynaghs collapse in last years county final.
D Owens has proven to be able to create a huge team spirit and to get a group of lads to work really hard as a team , that is some thing that Offaly really lack at the moment .
i honestly think there are a couple of our top players that D Owens would retire because of their inability to play for the team . I am not going to name them but untill every player gives 100% for the team offaly will struggle .
I rember watching offaly training in early 2000s and seeing d hayden been floored with a perfect shoulder by c cassidy and then watching sid attack cassidy . cassidy said to sid its a mans game and kilkenny wont ask him to step out of their way .
The last 18 months have proven that Sid didnt listen as HIS OFFALY team just stand back from any physical stuff and they allowed laois to bully them in every position .
we dont need an outside manager to get the basic things right but we need to start on the basics such as team spirit and work rate without B Whelahan
