Just back from break.
Was talking to one of the lads involved in the Dublin Minor set-up.
He was happy enough with the win. But what surprise me was what he said about the Offaly Hurlers.
He said that the big different between the team was Dublin Physical power. He thinks Dublin will win Lenister this year without any problem if they can keep there lad right.
He said there about 5 Offaly lads that would walk on the Dublin team.
This is from a lad that love tell me how good Dublin are and how bad Offaly is. So from him that high praise.

The ground hurling thing. Should fall into the the decision making process. Sometime Ground hurling if the correct decision. Hell sometime using your feet to kick the ball ahead of up is the correct decision.
Its not the ground hurling that the problem it the decision making that we need to get better.
Saturday Physical we weren't going to win that battle. so the best opinion was to move the point of contact and that might have lead to the over use of hitting the ball on the ground.

The good thing is that Physical when our lads get older the physical gap will natural close.
“Common sense is not so common.”

That's grand. Something for the dressing room door.

Anyone read this in last Sunday's Sindo?

Ye're very quiet about this one lads which makes me nervous! Weather seems to be clearing up, so hopefully we'll have a cracker like last year and may the best team win.

Laois 3 -15 Offaly 1-13

This a surprise? See westmeath had a great win vs Wexford. Fair play to them.

i was disappointed with the laois performance. having beaten most of the munster mob in practice matches, I found the effort lethargic at times. laois had beaten offaly by 20 points earlier in the year and as an offaly all star said to me at the game yesterday, that result caused two effects, laois were complacent and offaly in damage limitation mode lacking belief.

laois will need to up their game to win a leinster semi final and the best 15 needs to be selected, and some rejigging, obviously avoiding Kilkenny in the draw on Monday would help.

laois beat offaly by about 15 points in 2013, that offaly team had some fair players. to be blunt the 2015 offaly team was as bad an offaly minor team as I have seen in years, the goal was a long range effort at a point misjudged by the laois goalkeeper, and that apart offaly did not once threaten for a goal.

with Westmeath winning yesterday, at best now offaly at minor level are 6th seeds. to build back up the offaly brand, the spadework really does need to be put in at under 10 and under 12 level. no point selecting a former great(such as joe errity) to run a minor team if the talent is not there to work with.

it can be a long unrewarding haul, this development process. when laois played cork in a challenge about 8 weeks go, I spoke with the cork coordinator and he explained that given the lack of success the rebel county have had at minor level, they were pumping big resources into turning the tide. given the numbers in cork, and with McManus employing Anthony Daly in Limerick as underage director, the likes of Laois and Offaly with lesser resources and limited numbers to pick from, are faced with an unfair battle. you could be making progress on one level, yet the year end results may not relate that fact.

Good man Suckindiesel, cheers for the patronising comments. We don't need some upstart from Laois telling us how poor our underage development is. You'd swear Laois were after winning a few Leinster minors or all Ireland's lately. Actually when was the last time ye won any silverware? Have ye won a Leinster since we did in 2000? Have ye won a minor all Ireland since we last did in '89?

Yes the county is disappointed and embarrassed to be losing minor matches to ye but don't come on here gloating. Great work seems to be done at underage level in Laois and fair play to ye for that, don't worry about us we'll be fine.

you are the one with the attitude problem allstar, I call it as I see it, I never said laois would win leinster or god save an all Ireland with this team.
perhaps you are one of those harping on the past and reading the parts of threads that suit your eyes. part of the overall malaise I fear.

and for the record I would expect offaly seniors to beat laois if they met in the championship this year.

if beating offaly suckindiesel makes your day its no wonder the laois seniors are in the round robin every year in senior, thats 4 years in a row they have won, and there are alot off them minor teams over the last 3 years playing senior with laois yet they were in a relgation play off in the league, plus Antrim who were beaten by kerry to go down to division 2 beat them last sunday.

so all this great work that is been done at underage in laois is it just to beat offaly  as allstar2010 said if laois were winning underage titles in leinster then they could crow but they aren't
they lost the schools final Mountrath to Antrims Ballycastle a few weeks back so there is as much work been done in Antrim as in laois as Antrim prove yet again to last sunday. i have no fear that offaly will still pick up a few more players off the minor teams of the last 4 years that will go on to be better seniors than what will come on to the laois senior side, you would think with all the underage titles the laois footballers won in the late 90's and early 2000's and only 1 leinster senior title to show for it ye would have learn your lesson seems not, but as i said if beating offaly keeps leix happy its no wonder they never win anything.

Suck,

You're a good contributor here, congrats on yere win, and drive it on etc. But this comment by you and reproduced below by me is unbecoming and unnecessary. And that's not because it was directed at me.

Still, it probably betrays something in the Laois attitude somewhere along the line.

The Portarlington, Co Offaly contributor struggling to come to terms with yesterday's defeat to the neighbours.

If the result went the other way, townman would be all over Leix internet forums, trolling away, so he can hardly complain.

Attempts to rationalise these defeats with stuff like how a minor team only needs to feed through 3 or 4 players to senior, or the county who beat us are only a bunch of charlatans who don't convert it to senior success completely miss the point.
Westmeath and Leix are counties with roughly the same population, roughly the same finances and also a robust football scene. They've managed to produce a crop of players with enough ability to make a decent impact in the championship. There is no easy cop out for Offaly in claiming that the lack of big money or lack of population is what hampers us.

Unfortunately the feeling beforehand was that the players arriving at this age grade are generally a long way off where they need to be in terms of the basics skills. We're now reaching the point where our minor hurlers weren't even born when people were beginning to lament the serious problems at underage in Offaly. Is there much evidence that this is going to change any time soon?
Will the 2025 version of this topic be lamenting how Louth's hurlers had a far better grasp of the basic skills and we were lucky to keep the score down?

I will never forgive the Laois folk for introducing Townman to the gaaboard at the time LaoisTalk ceased. Gaaboard was a Townman free zone prior to then.
