Well done Pat and the boys

by Truth as i see it
Just wanted to say well done to Pat Flanagan and the boys for pulling off an excellent win today, it was hard fought for and they showd the old style Offaly Mentality to pull it out of the fire in the end, they're getting used to hanging in there in games they would have lost a year or two ago which is great to see.

Just on a side note its disappointing to hear that the away fans outnumbered our own. i will admit i wasn't at the game myself so i won't be pointing fingers but i will say that the footballers deserve the same same kind of support that the hurlers seem to be enjoying at the moment as they are putting in an equally hard shift training wise (and no this isn't a dig at the hurlers to start a hurling vs as football argument)

I'm delighted to see the hurlers doing well and it was a very morale boosting win over Limerick last night and i know that people will either go to one or the other some times if the games are close together but surely given that fact that it was a home match more people (including me, i had intended to go but something came up) could have made to the game today

I noticed too that there was no thread on the match in the lead up to the game on the forum, i could understand the lack of interest if the team was struggling at the bottom of the table but we're in the running for promotion here lads, i mean its easy following a hurling team in division 2 of the league who are going for promotion but as Pat himself said in the after match interview its when the team are trying to claw their way out of the basement league that the team really needs the fans behind them.

There's plenty of experts on this forum who are happy to stone the team when they lose yet when the team starts winning they are nowhere to be found

Are we Offaly fans or just bandwagon followers?

I hope we see fans (including me) get behind both teams in the remaining games and start to give both teams the support they deserve

Serious tussle in OCP today and the lads just about edged it (It wouldn't have been a crime if Carlow had got a draw). Small crowd yes but I don't bother myself with the numbers at the games anymore. We've loads of hurling "supporters" that won't even travel 15 miles to watch their county so the way I look at it is we all have reasons for going to games or reasons for not going to games and thats that.
Bernard Allen has come on no end in this year and him and Willie Mulhall are working really well in the full forward line. This team now looks to have a few scoring threats not just Niall Mc. Midfield went out of it for long periods today which was disappointing as midfield had been strong all year I thought. That bit of ol Offaly fight to end was evident at the end and you could see what it meant to all involved. People were saying afterwards that the lads were promoted......not so. Antrim could still catch us but a win against Longford next day out will be enough to see us up without having to worry about the last game. Division 3 beckons where we will be on a collision course with the Lillies (a county whose 20 year smugness is about to come to end in the next 2 weeks :D ).

A late point wins it for Offaly, but we got one point which was definitely wide. Carlow might have got a draw, but for that decision. Still, Offaly got a valuable win, and it's Longford in two weeks time. Win there and promotion is ours. Might need to be more direct in our play.

Great job to pull out the win here!!!

Now the real fun begins.

We have Longford and Antrim up next. With us they are also top of the table looking to move on.

Nothing is a given in this division. It shows how seriously football is being taken regardless of where teams are ranked or whatever.

Just a look at the scores and it appears incredibly competitive.

We just edged Carlow. When Longford played Antrim they got a one point win.

Leitrim shows up last week against a favored Offaly and in fairness to them reeled in a big deficit to get a draw in a game that could have gone either way.

Great to be in the position we are in right now. The right man is in charge and we seem to be moving in the right direction with a bit of bite.

Looking forward to the next game in this.

Onward!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we have aload of football supporters from the capital town who won't even walk 5 or 10 minutes to watch their county lets not forget that either.

I don't see the "big support" that the hurlers get.
I was at the Waterford game and there was around 7/800 there, the following day id say around 600 turned up.

As Bracknaghboy said, used to bother me too, but now I don't care. Up to lads and lassies themselves to decide to go. I think one of the drawbacks of running the league off so early is the inability to run double headers which might aid the size of the crowd in cases where we have 2 home games over a given weekend.

Disappointing for the players to not have the support, there is still a snobbery in the Offaly public that has no interest in supporting their home team in Div 4.

Vital for us to get back up to Div 3, which we need to able to consolidate by staying there.

Crucial to see an improved performance against Longford next Sunday, we did play well in patches against them in the championship last year, but loose marking and inability to track runners from deep, cost us dearly and we need to show that we have learned from that.

that was my point to Bracknaghboy, both sides don't have big support, his point that hurling supporters won't go to tullamore, so why are there no one going to the football in the heartland of football tullamore town, Bracknagh, Walsh island, gracefield, edenderry, Rhode, only a stones throw from tullamore.

That's serious stonethrowing. Edenderry is around 20 miles from Tellamore. Same distance as Birr, come to think of it.

Incidentally, I put 'Tullamore' and 'Edenderry' into AA Route Planner and it directed me from Edenderry to Rhode and onto the M6! That's crazy!

The football "supporters" that don't turn up are not making excuses, they just clearly have no interest in division 4 football and therefore don't go. The hurling "supporters" that don't turn up equally have no interest in division 1b hurling but they pretend they do and claim that the Himalayan like 10-20 mile trek to Tullamore is insurmountable thus making attendance at the games impossible!
As I said in my earlier post the real supporters will travel the ones that aren't will find all sorts of excuses not to. It doesn't bother me anymore.

The issue isn't having to travel to Tullamore or Birr.
It's the distance home again that's off-putting...

Bad news for Pauric indeed, terrible to hear news like that and the best of luck to him in his recovery.
