Of course you wouldn't Lone Shark.
I don't know the exact figure (Birr GAA probably don't either) that has been spent on the development of Birr stands and pitches but if a fraction of this had been spent on developing a plan and implementing the plan for underage hurling and schools Birr GAA would be in a much better place and thus Offaly hurling.

we don't need two county grounds in Offaly.
another penny spent on Birr pitch is a waste of money.
Offaly GAA owe roughly 2.1 million on O'Connor park all county finals and big games should be played in O'Connor park.

And I agree while money wont change everything it certainly helps things and with a good plan in place it would be a start. Birr GAA has been seriously miss-managed the past 10 years as has Offaly GAA by our county board along with other things. Both Birr and Offaly are now really feeling the effects of this piss poor management.

Birr need to seriously get the finger out and start investing time money and resources in schools and underage hurling.

You couldn't make this up.

you must be a member of the county board offaly future, we all know why the hurling was switch to O'Connor park to pay for it, but it has back fired with offaly county board not gettting their finger out over over our underage the last few years as why you can watch offaly in Geashill now as for who be looking at them.

the under 21 shambles with the county board only getting their man a few weeks before we hurl wexford no wonder we were hurl out the gate saving money again as for the frace that was the senior job put a name in the hat and pull it out would have been better,

as a Birrman your comments about not getting their finger out, what are the other clubs in Offaly doing, yes we have hit hard times and we don't have the talent we used to have but that happens
look at Ballyhale Shamrocks a few years ago they dropped from senior, great clubs like Athenry and Sarsfields are down a long time now, yes offaly are the poorer because the great players Birr had for offaly to are gone. we had Coolderry and K/K winning leinster titles and getting to all ireland finals, but what did they bring to the county :?: ............ Birr carried offaly for years now we are gone it seems its Birrs fault , Offalys future i think its up to the Coolderrys and k/k's to get their fingers out they are the kingpins of offaly now, but like alot you were one on the bandwagon when offaly and Birr hurling was at its best in the 90's kick them when their down .

Offalys future presume your a kilkormac man johnny pilkington has made huge strides at senior level with birr has turned everything around players are so happy with him and he's earned the respect of the players something none of them had when he took the job..He's not the same man that managed kilkormac a few years back and he's not the same man people think he is..he's open minded and has moved on with hurling unlike some other hurling people around the county..just another cheap dig at birr...birr is the hurling stronghold we might as well keep our hurling grounds in decent nick.birr more or less won everyting going on them figures

Birr hosted the camogie match last week and will host the u-21 game this weekend. there for it is up to the standard to host small attendance club games that it should be doing.

O'Connor park is the county ground that owes 2.1 million. we don't in Offaly need two county grounds.
tell me this we had the two grounds for donkeys years, Birr always was the hurling view, county finals should be held there, tell you with the crowds going to watch hurling in O'Connor park they are not making money i'd say there was about only 80 offaly people at the minor match again laois this year.
was talking to a county player a few weeks ago and he said to see a few people sitting in the middle of the stand on match day is a joke he said there would be more at the trainning sessions they do.

not just hurling for a town thats in the heart of the football scene there is less watching the footballers in O'Connor park, next year they should give the likes of Gracefield,Walsh Island, Edenderry a few league game as they will be well able to hold a crowd for division 4 games. and
like so in the hurling Banagher, Birr, should get a few games like it was years ago at least you get better gates than having them in tullamore. they only used for tullamore is now is for other counties to used it like the last two weeksends because our county Board and they carried on with the underage has seen that it will be many along day before offaly will pack it out on big match day again in either code.

they can say what they like babsandbond but they can never take back what we won as a club and our clubmen for the county, 7 leinster titles 4 club all irelands along with winning all irelands in 94 and 98, sid's 1-6 and Erittys 1-2 both who hurl in the backs a few months before in the club final of 98 the likes will never again be seen not in our live time anyway .

the first hurling county final that was played in O'Connor park after the redevelopment had less people at it than the previous year in Birr but the gate was higher in O'Connor park! Maybe that has something to do with it also.

I was at the Laois game in minor and I would have estimated 1500 - 2000 people in total. I doubt they were all from Laois or neutrals!
would you go way 2000 at the minor game a few weeks ago. i seen more at the ringing of a pig the county board would like to think there was.

love this discussion..

we had the two grounds becuause tullamore clun owned OCP. Offaly GAA own OCP now so why would they host a county final in a clubs ground now.

birr had serious advantage in the past playing on their home ground for county finals.

I hear Offaly are seeking permission for a central training facility in kilcormac. is this tue?

or do we have to put this in birr as wel?

we don't need a central training facility or any more money spent on facilities. we need a strategic plan and outside help.
we also need good people to implement this plan.

we also won the first 3 that was played in tullamore to also won a leinster club title in tullamore
the Birr teams from 1990 to 08 didn't give a shit where they had to go went to Clones, thurles,Ennis, croke park, nowlan park, carlow, nass, kiltegean in wicklow, portlaoise, wexford park, and
won them all ST.Brendans park wasn't an advantage to Birr as every club hurl there and Banagher love to hurl in it. what has the training facility in kilcormac got to do with Birr just anothe bitter remark about Birr, tell you the state of offaly hurling at the moment and their fitness we could do with a good few training facility's in offaly .

and great years they were but stop living in the past. we all want to see those days back.
but this will never happen with a mentality like yours.

and you seem to think that its all birrs fault that we are shit at the moment at hurling

What I was trying to say there was a load of s**t going on in birr for a good few years and they took there eye of the ball and weren't getting the success at underage level but now they are putting in hard work after realising the work wasn't been done.the group of senior players now won everything at underage..and we have Taylor and cahill on the senior panel this year so we're still producing hurlers..so offalys future answear why did u say birr need a good manager at senior level when some of the players have said he's the best manager they have trained under...your having sly digs at birr..just cos ye won 2 county finals god knows it took ye long enough..plenty of work went missing in kk when they were winning underage. .They certainly didn't produce at senior level
