What the papers read!

Post by KillougheyGoBragh »

Good write up on Brendan Cummins in the Sunday Indo by Vincent Hogan. Wherein Cummins explains how Tipp hurling needs changes and his retirement can help accelerate those changes.

With 'Life from Brian' Offaly hurling can relive happier times but sadly we must temper our joy with pain and mourn for Niall Donohue and his family. Caroline Crawford outlines the sadness felt and how the GAA came to show its respect. http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/ga ... 02948.html

Leadership, they say, comes from the top down and especially so when it is to secure the rights of those that play and promote the 'minority' sports within our community. Sometimes it may seem easier to keep your head below the parapet and hope the wind will blow over but there are occasions when we need direction and leadership from those that have been given, and have taken, office under such a premise. The Independent outlines such an example here

Reading all week that KK problem was with County Board

Now they say the prob is with the Senior Hurling Manager

I would be fairly sure that the Officers of the County Board did not order the KK lads to snub their club football training &go to County Hurling instead.

Now Sid's attitude in insisting that any lad who wants to play County Hurling cannot play County football seems now to be extending to club football.

When KK informed County Officers ( not CB as it has not met) that their players were not available fo rthey County Hurling training on Tuesday did not get any order from County Sec so it was up to the players to decide to play club or bow to Sid. The players made their decision......................

they threw away a leinster club title last year playing in the junior club football a week before they played Oulart, and most from k/k said as much after the defeat in tullamore. maybe this year their eye is on the small ball at club and county.

In the grand scheme of things its like Kilcormac fiddling while Killoughey is on fire!

There might be some interest in underage football, but once they hit minor, forget about it!

Do we smell a Drift?? Kilcormac!!!!!!!!! Killoughey!!!!!!!!! bit like our current government!!!!

Considering KilcormacKiloughey are good enough footballers to get where they are now after only a couple short years in Senior it would be difficult for them to drop football. They did well in the league despite not having all their team - the senior intercounty hurlers so they have enough good footballers who are not with the county for hurling or football

That is the problem!
There seems no direction or help forthcoming from the County Board. No proactive problem solving or dynamism rather a lack lustre reactive 'wait and see' policy.
K/K Committee, on the other hand, have kept their members informed of every step in this sorry saga.

Trying to 'close the barn door' with this subtle statement after your initial blunder of overlooking the fabulous effort by our u14 hurling and FOOTBALL teams reaching both Feile Championships.
Adding insult to injury against our young footballers.
If Killoughey is on fire it is with PASSION to be even more committed to the cause, together, with our brothers and sisters from the whole Parish of Kilcormac/Killoughey.

well said killougheygobragh .
if only offaly teams had half the passion fire and togetherness that all kilcormac killoughey teams have nowadays ,we might have something to look forward during the summer.

I acknowledged the effort with underage Football, and I know some of the lads involved, but I stand by my statement that when they reach minor it fades away.
Ye dont enter a team in the league and ye dont train for football, so you tell me where the passion you describe for football manifests itself.
Fine , if ye want to count winning a Junior or Intermediate championship when ye have a fine set of footballers, who cant train for football, counts as passion , then you have a different definition than many. Winning titles without training indicates a poor standard in the county, but also that the winning team is clearly playing at a grade below where it should be.
In addition, you should have 2 representatives on the Offaly Senior football team, with more to come in the future if you give football the required focus.
