May-ode to Autumn

Post by High School Musical »

Season of twists and inexorable fruitlessness
Close bosom-friend of the thirty-one
Conspiring with them how to bestow success
And rout the Blues of sky to whom the Media run;
From Sound and Croagh and Céide Field,
Come with righteous privilege to their core;
To swell the ground, and fill the Croker shell
God and Mary be with us; on jersey wore,
And still more, many prayers as they kneeled,
Until they think good days will bring due yield,
For Summer’s past did frame their fiery hell.
Who hath not pity thee oft amid our lore?
Sometimes who seeks our horde after may find
Thee shifting careless on Flannerys floor,
Thy hair fringe-raised by a gelatinous bind;
Or in a half-empty Subway evading sleep,
Drows'd with the fume of poppers, bereft of luck
Struggling to take stock of this latest debacle:
A vanquished horde unable to scale mountain steep
Worry thy laden head of what they took;
Over a cider-glass, with discontent look,
Left to dream of the horizon view from Achill.
Where are the promises of Spring? Ay, where are they?
Think not of them, whats another year or two,
While darkest clouds lift on the now-dying day,
And ride the carriage homebound to the plain of the yew
Where in a painful choir the maritime men mourn
Beyond the river Shannon, none made soft
A journey lone, no longer pain to disguise;
As full-grown bucks loud weep with hardy scorn;
Back home the carriage bring; back where no soul scoffed
The red breast below the green now sits aloft;
To post grievances on Twitter for all eyes.

Brilliant, for a long time empathy, on an even longer journey, to a hades or somewhere held!
