Lets face it, there is a group here who work together against other posters, as in they tend to have the same opinions. Case in point where LS comes out to bat for Poth against the BT comment.
The nuts and bolts of the issue is that a group of people who are heavily involved in their clubs and in the Supporters club socialise in that pub, so what, best of luck to them. And also, in many counties the Supporters club would have a bit of influence with the CB, and why wouldnt they.

In any organisation there are lobby groups, thats life in Ireland.

Get over yerselves and cop on. BT should not have been mentioned in the way it has been. Get involved with a club and ye may be in a position to do something.

However I do agree, RB's reply is way over the top and is embarassing to him more than anyone else. And is potentially damaging to a business also.

Personally I dont socialise too often in Tullamore, but the Tap is a fine etablishment for a pint and a bit if banter betimes, and I will continue to give them the odd twist.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here that's actually a criticism. There are contributors on here that I would tend to agree with, so naturally when I post up it will read like I'm backing them up. However that's just what happens when people share a viewpoint. It's hardly ganging up on anyone, and I'd like to think that all viewpoints are welcomed and encouraged.

Equally when it comes to the BT, you've basically said what I've hinted at, and what other posters have said more explicitly. There is a group of people in Offaly GAA who are influential, and they can be found in that pub occasionally. You'll note that not one of my posts have actually criticised any of these people. Neither was I trying to say that the supporters club has too much Power, or anything like it.

Where you are way off is presuming that just because people post on here, that precludes an involvement in their club or County. The vast majority are very involved.

i have to agree with this. From Dublin i can think of a group for Football and a group for hurling. both who have the ear of the county board. This is where the County Board need to be professional. You listen to everyone and appoint the best for the job. If that selling ticket or county board chairman. Offaly GAA should have the best. Everything outside of that person ability to do the job should be disregarded.

Firstly, it seems there are people out there in the online world who don’t understand how such forums work.
There is no single representative opinion. There is plenty of debate and arguing over viewpoints. The opinions belong to each individual and not the forum.
Hence there are several thousand posts and topics, many of the debates getting heated but almost always respectful of the differing viewpoints.

Places like Twitter are different. You can deliver all sorts of monologues, broadsides and sweeping statements. Generally people won’t be able to argue back in any sort of nuanced fashion in 140 characters.
Come into a forum like this with sweeping statements and you’ll be (rightly) picked apart and expected to back up your opinions…if you stick around. As I’ve found in my years on forums, I’ve been challenged on things and often after a debate with someone have changed my opinion, or seen the other point of view better. Someone who doesn’t share your viewpoint isn’t automatically a pr1ck as seems to be the implication. It also seems certain people expect this to be a somewhere that never goes beyond worshipping past legends and seeing anyone who has pulled on an Offaly jersey as immortal.

Again I’m not sure where Offaly legends have been slighted here recently though? Brian Whelahan’s appointment has been warmly welcomed, with due reference to his phenomenal hurling career. The previous manager probably got a kinder time on here, compared to how a certain Offaly individual in the media who was clearly gunning for him.

As for the Brewery Tap, any references to it are indirectly towards a loose grouping of mostly North Offaly based hurling personalities. It’s a bit like how a group of economists like Colm McCarthy and Sean Barrett became dubbed the ‘Doheny and Nesbitt’s School of Economics’ because they often thrashed out their ideas there.
I don’t recall Tom Mangan ever going nuclear whenever this reference was made? I’m sure he is delighted. It has created a certain aura around the place.
Helping it to become the drop in place for movers and shakers and even world leaders like Angela Merkel.

Anyway, isn’t it all good publicity for this site. Though anyone who drops in here expecting to find Offaly legends being torched and a bunch of pr1cks and cowards posting will be disappointed…about the first part anyway

Ah the uibh fhaili.com crew are mobilising. I used to enjoy this forum but it does not encourage debate the way it used too. If people dont hold the same opinion as a select few who have been on the site since the start they get shot down. I know alot of people who have contributed to this site not just from tullamore but dont bother anymore as the way it has gone. Its clearly evident as the amount of topics have decreasd as far as I can make out and people aint interested in looking at the same drivel been written every year.

I could write alot more but whats the point I will just get shot down for not siding with the select few.

Just think we all need to focus on the Man Of The Moment and not let his tenure as Offaly Hurling Manager begin under a cloud, no matter how small or how insignificant it may seem.
Small bit of advice from a man that wishes he was living close enough to be able to go to the Brewery Tap and have a pint, where I'm sure we would all be welcome, to discuss GAA or whatever else.

With Brian Whelahan being ratified as senior team manager on Tuesday next, I wonder is there any new talent available to him. Ollie Baker had 8 under 21 hurlers in his panel. Surely that means that there must be no other under 21/minors available that might be an addition to the panel. Have some players decided to give up county hurling and play county football instead?. While I am not that familiar with hurling in Offaly at the moment, it still looks very challenging for Brian.

Is there any developments on a hurling minor and U21 manager or is Whelehan also doing 21's with senior?? There were a few young lads in the club wondering about trials!!

Also, who is over the 21 footballers, is it McDonnell and crew or is there others outside senior management involved?

Heard that the minor footballers were already started with trials having taken place already and the panel whittled down a good bit......It is good that they are starting early...Pity the hurlers wouldnt be the same as they are out at 21 level in april i think....The minor footballers are probably our best chance of success next year and have a good chance of getting close to a Leinster if the cards fall the right way.... some serious talent coming through from underage development squads but it needs to be harnessed and the most got out of them.... If it is we should win Leinster minor either next year or following year.....If not, the famine will continue for another while as i cannot see the seniors pushing for a leinster in the next few years!!!

I see that Paschal is the new manager of Athy, good move for him as there is serious talent in Athy and Paschal could be the man to harnass the talent, he'll be busy with the Offaly minors aswell. Good luck
