It costs a tenner to get in folks, if ye can leave the turf for a few hours on Sunday.

With sunshine promised, the stand is reserved for those of paler complexion. They pay €20. Any complaints of discrimination on the grounds of skin colour can be directed to the Leinster Council.

You are not wrong there. I can see people going to O'Brien Park for the sandwiches, then heading into town to watch the match on d'telly. "Are ya goin' ta Tellamore?"

On a serious note, the absence of team news of ANY description has contributed to the quieter-than-usual (even by Offaly standards) build-up. I dont demand the management name the team, I mean how has the team been shaping up in challenge matches? Who has been hurling at full-back, at centre-back? Where have David Kenny and Rory Hanniffy lined out lately? Do we even know who's going to be in goal, for feck sake?

Do Offaly have a team? Is there going to be a match?

In years gone by, such Omerta preceded a hungry Offaly performance with a shock result the outcome. 2013?

I'm wondering how many will go to this. For comparison, I've looked at attendances for the more recent Offaly v Kilkenny Leinster championship matches nwhich were played at at Portaloos.

11,409 in 2007 (double-header with Offaly v Carlow in football, hot day)
8,151 in 2008
Something tells me the latter was live on TV. Was the former? I can't recall.

Attendances at Offaly matches in OCP are as follows -

6,000 at Offaly v Laois in 2007
8,500 at Offaly v Cork in 2009 (fine evening)
6,800 at Offaly v Limerick in 2010 (wet evening, Limerick on strike, double header with football)
7,315 at Offaly v Wexford last year (wet evening, live TV , double header with Dublin v Laois)
The last 3 were on Saturday evenings, Laois in 2007 was on a Sunday.

The attendance at the 2008 Leinster U21 Final would be instructive too.

With Tellamore quite a drive from South Kilkenny, are we looking at about 7k given the likelihood of a hot day, dropping by 1k - 1.5k if the weather breaks? Or will the Sunday factor add a thousand or so?

I've been talking to a few fellas in the know, and they dont know much about what the team is going to be. According to Lowry on de paper , Del is out, and Offaly were narrowly beaten by the Wexicans in Carla recently. But nothing else.
I would predict no more than 4000 at this, with a 1000 curious Kilkenny men, women and childer making the journey, (the curiosity driven by the ongoing fascination with aforementioned ham sandwiches, could Offaly have discovered a new formula for the hang sang that they have missed?).

On a more serious note, cant make this myself. Was at the football last weekend and apart from the group of kids from Rhode in the Canal (end), twas hard to spot an Offaly presence, (bar the Carrolls Ham flag!). Would say there wasnt 1000 there. Pure Cat really, (and the match wasnt even on de telly!!) :(

Correct. Slevin is on the frees for sunday. Shane is taking time out to concentrate on hitting the road signs outside his house
