Junior Hurling Championship

Post by timber »

Who is the favourite to take the Junior A title this year? Killavilla were fancied before a ball was pucked and probably still look like they should win it.

Shinrone and KInnitty are probably the two teams that would be really expecting to have a say as well. Shinrone have a few players that could and probably should be playing some part for their senior team but it appears they are hoping to win this championship. Players that could be the diference in a tight game in senior championship. That is their call to make though.

Kinnitty have a few very experienced players with the likes of McRedmond, Kealy and Kinsella key men for them. Its a solid all round team but they would be worried by the last defeat to Shinrone but I think they were short a few players. Likewise Shinrone shipped a heavy defeat to Clareen in the early rounds but were short a few players also.

Coolderry have jumped straight up from junior B and have been impressive. Especially considering they are in the knock stages of the intermediate as well. Shinrone should be too strong for them with the hurlers they have at this grade. Although Coolderry had some county minors hurling junior last year and it would be interesting to know what grade they are playing this year.

Clareen, Ballinamere, KK and Edenderry in that order are all strong enough junior sides capable of beating anybody on their day so interesting quarter finals in place.

On another note, I see juinor B quarter final fixtures for this weekend. But according to the master fixture list the final should be played this weekend. How did the fixtures committee get this one so wrong especially since it is a grade that should have no reason for delays.

I would imagine Raheen are very strong for that grade and Gracefield the closest to them. Both clubs only team so they should be capable of beating all the second string teams that are struggling to field teams. It will be between the two of them.

No excuses for the county board, this championship should be finishing this weekend. More issues with fixtures.

In Junior B Shamrocks will not play Raheen in semi-final as both these teams topped their groups and will avoid eachother in semis. Both will be drawn to play winners of this weekend quarter-finals. Gracefield should be far too strong for Kilurin while the Kinnitty v Killeigh quarter-final should be a close enough affair. Killeigh are probably slight favourites having won Junior C last year. Realistically Junior B championship is between 3 teams -1. Raheen 2. Shamrocks and 3. Gracefield.

Junior A quarter-finals
Saturday
Kinnitty v Edenderry Killeigh 3pm Kinnitty should win.

Sunday
Seir Kieran v Killavilla Carraig 12 Killaviila to win

Shinrone v Coolderry Rath 1pm Shinrone to win
Ballinamere v Kilcormac/K O C P 11.30 very hard to call this-tight game -will just go with Balinamere to shade it

I feel raheen should win the junior b but both gracefield and shamrock will push them close. The junior b as been a bit of a messthis year lusmagh carrig riverstown and crinkill all gave at least one walk over and now killurin pull out of the q/f . I know these team all have teams in higher grades but its really a joke

ballinamere 1-07 edenderry 0-09. this was a game that edenderry should not have lost. a free hit in from ballinamere in the last few mins lobbed straight into the net. the reds were to wasteful in the second half and hit ball short or wide to many times . edenderrys backline and midfield were on top for most of the game and in the second half their forward line played to deep and ball after ball was hit into ballinamere men who only had to catch and clear under very little pressure. best of luck to ballinamere in the final it should be a good game with both teams finishing level earlier in the year in the group stages. edenderry did well and should take great pride after their efforts this year.

its hard to look past shinrone but ballinamere have plenty of experience and did win the final in 2010. shinrone hammered killavilla in their semi final who finished top of group 2 and were unbeaten up until the semi final. ballinamere were lucky to overcome an edenderry team that had plenty of chances to win the game and they will need their forwards to work harder and score more if they are to have a chance in the final. il go for SHINRONE 3-12 BALLINAMERE 2-08

Raheen should win easily. Its their first and only team so they should be far too strong at this grade.

The other final should be alot tighter. Alot of talk has been that both teams could have used some of these players on their 1st teams respectively. Shinrone have been more impressive but this Ballinamere team has won this grade before and have even gained a few more players with alot of intermediate experience so they really should be favourites.

A big issue for me is junior finals being played in late October. How long is it since the semi finals were played. Its a complete farce and the county board should cop themselves on.

The B final was on the master fixture schedule for 1st September. The A final was on it for 6th October. There is no way a junior hurling final should be played in late October. These championships could have been wrapped up in August if the fixtures were planned properly and certain people on the county board were not sorting fixtures to suit their own clubs and as a result holding up these championships. Whatever about a football game in these conditions, hurling deserves to be given some chance of a decent sod.
