SIOBHÁN FLANNERY inspired Offaly to overcome Armagh in the Minor B decider at Parnell Park for the county's first All-Ireland camogie title.

Offaly make history
Monday, August 08, 2005

The Minor ’B’ All-Ireland final was the best All-Ireland in years with Offaly edging out Armagh 2-14 to 3-9 to take the first ever All-Ireland camogie title to the Faithful county. This was a thrilling final, with little or nothing between the sides throughout the entire game.

Both counties were chasing their first ever title and in Offaly’s case it also meant the first ever camogie title for the Faithful County. They showed the greater hunger in the opening moments and were 0-3 up before Corrina Mc Kee shot the first goal of the day to leave the Orchard county trailing 1-0 to Offaly’s 0-4.

A second goal from the Minor ’B’ Player of the match Colette Mc Sorley with three minutes to go to the break put the Orchard county ahead 2-3 to Offaly’s 0-8.

The second half was gripping to say the least with Offaly’s Siobhán Flannery becoming her side’s hero scoring two goals inside a minute with three minutes of normal time left. Armagh were shocked, but they still refused to die and once again Colette Mc Sorley came to the rescue with a free to level it 2-12 to Armagh’s 3-9.

Entering into injury time, Siobhán Flannery sent over two frees to make sure the Corn Aoife sailed safely to Offaly for the first time in history.
