Offaly GAA Open Forum/Planning Programme

Offaly County Board is initiating a planning process following a request from GAA Clubs, at a recent County Board meeting, for an Open Forum to discuss topics relating to the GAA in the county. The Forum consists of five workshops over 2 nights (Monday 15th and Monday 22nd August) in the Tullamore Court Hotel.
Clubs – both underage and adult- are invited to send at least 2 representatives to both sessions, perhaps Chairperson and Secretary, but there are also workshops that relate directly to the work of other club office holders.
On Monday next, 15th, there are 3 workshops:
Workshop 1 focuses on coaching at both underage and adult levels and deals with all aspects of club games; refereeing and disciplinary matters and competitive Gaelic Games within county Offaly. Not surprisingly for a workshop dealing with such a range of interesting topics this workshop will be of 2 hours duration, beginning at 7.30pm sharp.
Workshop 2 explores all elements of the promotion and marketing of games as well as the use and support of the Irish language and other Irish culture. This workshop will be of special interest to Club PROs as it deals with all aspects of their work. Beginning at 7.30pm this workshop is allotted 1 hour and will be immediately followed by a workshop on Physical Facilities at both club and county levels. This workshop deals with playing, player and spectator facilities at club and county grounds. It relates directly to the work of Club Health and Safety Officers, whose presence would be appreciated for this hour-long session.
There will be 2 further workshops on Monday 22nd August dealing with (a) administration and communication within the county and (b) county teams, players’ issues, and finances – the latter being of particular significance for club treasurers. These workshops again begin at 7.30pm and are of 1½ hours duration. There is a feedback session then at 9pm which –again for 1½ hours- enables all participants hear a report from each of the 5 workshops including the salient points raised and most importantly constructive suggestions and ideas for the way forward for GAA activity in Offaly.

This feedback will be provided by a team of facilitators that includes
· Liam O’Neill [Chairperson of Leinster Council]
· Pat Fitzgerald [Chair of National Club Planning and Development Committee]
· Albert Fallon [Chair of National Club Fixtures Taskforce]
· Shane Flanagan [Croke Park’s Policy and Planning Administrator and
· Máire Ni Cheallaigh [Secretary of the National Club Planning and Development Committee].

Other relevant units of Offaly GAA such as County Board sub committees will attend workshops that are a key ingredient in the development of a Strategic Plan for Offaly GAA.
The workshop deliberations will be forwarded to the relevant unit of the County Board who is charged will proposing an action plan that will see the recommendations and suggestions implemented for the betterment of all involved in Gaelic Game in the county. These action plans will be presented to all workshop participants before they are included in a development plan – an action-based document that will shape and direct the future of GAA in Offaly.
