Very surprisingly in Doon this evening, in the sunshine, Shannonbridge overcame the Cloghan based side with quiet a lot to spare in the end.
Rynaghs may have gone into the game as slight underdogs given that they were minus influential players such as Paudie Mulhare(Suspension), and Pat McIntyre(Injury) but Shannonbridge started brightest and let 0-03 to 0-01 after 4 minutes before brainlessly, wing back Noel Buckley stamped on Kieran Flannery before punching the oncoming Jason Kelly straight into the puss right in front of referee Cartage Buckley. A straight red card resulted and in all honesty it was one-way traffic from there on in. Point after point Shannonbridge continued their assault, and led 0-09 to 0-02 at the interval. In all honesty it could have been a lot more. the extra man started to tell and Rynaghs started to run out of ideas.
They started brightest however in the second half and reduced the lead to just 4 points at one stage, 0-10 to 1-03. It was just about as good as it got though. The second half teetered out into a very tame affair, Rynaghs lost their shape and inevitably as they pushed forward, gaps were exposed at the back and Shannonbridge duly punished them.
So it's gonna be St Brigids next for Rynaghs, defeat against the Croghan side would send them right back to intermediate football for 2008 whilst a win might revive some hope. I wouldn't bet on it though!!
