Re: O’Byrne Cup
Another good win today for Offaly - 2-12 to 1-7 over Wexford. I sense that John Maughan has especially targeted the O'Byrne Cup as a means to build the winning habit. In last year's league Offaly lost a number of games they should have won by not closing out very well from strong winning positions. ...

Re: Byrne v Duignan
another one! actually i haven't posted much on my opinions if you read back. but i will call out people on stating facts with no research only their opinion. and when we actually wanted their opinion they copped out and refused to give it! Hilarious The county is on an upward curve and for the firs...

Re: Byrne v Duignan
That would be a career of covering local and national GAA. Ongoing involvement in GAA administration. Involvement in two large sponsorship deals, dealing directly with county boards from the other side. If you disagree, disagree, but it's hardly a controversial view to say that different ways of wo...

Re: Byrne v Duignan
I echo the congratulations for Michael Duignan and the other newly elected officers and wish them every success in their roles. MD went out on a limb to go for the position but he did a lot of ground work to meet clubs to set out his plans. His fundraising work for Faithful Fields was massive and he...

Re: Byrne v Duignan
I’ve been trying to gauge the noise and I suspect If it was a straight ballot of all club members Michael Duignan would win. How delegates vote is an entirely different matter. To some extent the vote is a referendum on Tommy Byrne’s leadership. People who have worked with him on committees or dealt...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2020
Lets not forget that Offaly's first All Ireland in 1981 was won with a Galway man at corner back who wasn't seen as a contender for a place in his native county. Given that Martin Dolphin has Offaly connections I would like to think there is an affinity to Offaly that's driving any potential move. S...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2020
I hear Martin Dolphin from Portumna has been called into the hurling panel. As offaly are now playing in the 3rd tier of the hurling championship they are allowed 5 players from outside the county, without them getting a transfer to an Offaly club. Not sure if this is a progressive move for the pan...

Re: Meeting In Tullamore
The arguments about where games get played is one issue. Personally I'd like to see certain league games and Walsh Cup games in Birr (and possibly elsewhere in Offaly), but championship matches and county finals should be in the premier county ground. The idea that leaving Birr in 2006 caused a down...

Re: Meeting In Tullamore
It seems like a number of the group are going to contest for positions at county convention this December. Chiefly Michael Duignan running for chairman and some the others going for different roles. It's good to see there is a willingness from the group to get inside the white lines rather than shou...

Re: Meeting In Tullamore
We could give this group the benefit of the doubt and believe that these are people pulling together to put their shoulder to the wheel in a more organised manner. There is plenty of coaching, fundraising and strategic management experience going by the names mentioned. On the other hand this may ju...

Greatest piece of political dog-whistling I've ever seen, Appears to launching a broadside against Trump and Johnson, but is actually angling for the Offaly manager's job! https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/politics/phil-hogan-promises-bit-of-ground-hurling-with-donald-trump-after-being-appointed...

Re: Next Offaly Senior Hurling Manager
According to Brian Lowry on twitter: "Offaly senior hurling panel will be an exciting and well organised set up in 2020 going on Michael Fennelly's words today. He spent the full day in Faithful Fields today meeting County Board officials, potential backroom team members, U20 management and media." ...

Re: Next Offaly Senior Hurling Manager
He definitely ticks the right boxes and the Christy Ring is a good place to get him started from.
At 34 and slightly crocked, he'd still be a good addition to the Offaly starting 15

Re: Shane Lowry - Official topic
Superb!
It was clear for years he had the ability to land a big one. It just needed to all come together at the right time.
