Re: Club Championships 2016
Their are pros and cons to all c'ship formats. Fairly sure that in Laois the team relegated from Senior A has won the Senior B the following year without too much hassle. This has a knock on effect to the other Senior B clubs who are getting disheartened and don't really believe they can win a c'shi...

Re: Club Championships 2016
Anybody got the balls for straight knockout? 12 teams in a hat. First 4 out into the 1/4's. Next 8 play each other to fill the 4 remaining slots. 11 games in total and could in theory be ran over 4 weeks. The club GAA year needs to significantly shortened not by weeks but by months. Nothing sadder ...

Re: Club Championships 2016
The dilemma Offaly are faced with is another example of the GAA creating fixtures without thinking of the consequences. The Leinster round robin fixtures have caused major headaches for county boards and caused the league to finish in March when, in reality, it should only be starting. The Leinster ...

Re: 2016 Championship
On the subject of 2016 - I think it's a new low that Leinster Council have deemed it a good idea to start the Welsh Cup on the first Sunday in January. Now presumably someone saw a vacancy in the calendar and thought - that would be a great time to play some hurling. But wiser counsel should have b...

Re: 2016 Championship
Let's get the campaign started early now and focus on what is important...all these matches should be moved to BirrBord na Mona man wrote:
That would mean 4 championship games in Tellamore in one year.

Re: Leinster Club Championship
Winning the ball in these situations depends very much on your ability to lift/roll lift a ball at top speed. This is rarely practiced in training as it is too 'basic' and players rarely practice on their own because it is too boring and they think 'shur yeah of course I can rise a ball'. But can th...

Re: Leinster Club Championship
Hard luck to Coolderry. at half time 6 points down with the wind at there back they should have had a great chance. 6 points in nothing in hurling and with that wind if anything it was Coolderry game to lose. Moving Joe Brady for Centre back to full forward destabilised the whole team. Cula just st...

Re: Leinster Club Championship
Was in Tullamore today and it further served to highlight the areas where Offaly hurling is struggling. Coolderry tried to compete with Cuala but they lost the vast majority of the tussles for possession and when they did win the ball they proved, just like the Offaly senior team, that they couldn't...

Re: What are they smoking in Birr?
If anything, the fact that Wexford, Dublin and Galway haven't won an All-Ireland recently underlines how much work it takes to win one and how far away Offaly are. All 3 have been in minor and U21's AI finals and are routinely beating Offaly at both grades.

Re: What are they smoking in Birr?
The only thing consistent with modern hurling success is hard work, talent and perseverance. Before 2006 Danesfort in Kilkenny hadn't won anything since 1931. They now have the current Hurler of the Year among their ranks. Kilkenny don't rule out players because their clubs don't produce players tra...

Re: What are they smoking in Birr?
Tradition is something that is built. It's not in the air, it's not in the water and it's not in the soil. These are all things we imagine. Birr doesn't have any more of a hurling lustre than Tullamore. Some people just imagine that it does. The same tradition can be built in Tullamore if people fro...

Re: What are they smoking in Birr?
I just want to make one point on this issue. If there are people who won't travel to Tullamore to watch Offaly but will travel to Birr, are these the half hearted souls you would want to build an Offaly revival on?

Re: Laois v Offaly – Leinster Hurling Quarter Final 7th Ju
I have read and listened to the epitaphs of Offaly hurling being written for the past few days and wanted to share some thoughts. IMO the build up to and aftermath of Offaly's defeat and Laois' annihilation by Cork have a number of similarities. Both sets of players were poorly prepared by a success...

beat he to it Kevin:-) I would have love to see a few a this years games in Birr and this bullshit about a safety statement has been the excuses for far to long now. The county board need to step up and explain in detail what need to do to meet the requirements, If New Ross can hold inter county ma...

Re: 2015 Walsh cup
Now flicking the ball over a lads head especially on his debut shouldn't be tolerated. This is where Kiely will need game time to gain experience. Yes a young lad coming in with a bit of confidence and swagger, that shouldn't be tolerated. How dare he?! Was Offaly hurling not built on such acts of ...
