Senior Hurling Championship quarter-finals

September and the evenings begin to close in rapidly now. Hurling championship reaches the knockout stages this weekend with two interesting quarter finals. Coolderry and Kinnitty have been drawn straight into the semi finals. A welcome for them in ways but filling an idle four weeks can be difficul...

The latest proposals - will they ever end?

Is it just me or is the proposed structure described by Brennan different to the three options I thought were being proposed by the HDC and were, I thought, being put forward to congress? Interesting to see how Offaly, Wexford and Dublin react to the whole Galway thing. Counties like Louth, Longford...

Shinrone 1-16 Clareen 2-12

Shinrone reached the quarter final with a one point win over Clareen in Carrig last night. Kevin Reid’s goal gave them an early edge but Brian Dunne’s goal from a Joseph Bergin cross had his side back to within a point at half time, 1-7 to 1-6. The sides were level five times in an enthralling secon...

Coolderry 1-19 Shamrocks 2-6

Coolderry had no difficulties here. They were strong in defence and slick in attack and led 0-11 to 0-3 at half time, Brian Carroll hitting four points from full forward as he was served with a supply of delightful low ball, just what a forward wants, and Danny Masterson two. Derek Molloy won a pena...

Ballinamere 0-14 Killavilla 1-8

Ballinamere qualified for the IHC but they had to come from six points in arrears early in the second half to do so, scoring six unanswered points during the final quarter. Trailing 1-8 to 0-8 around the threee-quarter mark, two points from Emmet Molloy and a pointed free by Gerry Spollen had the le...

Tullamore 1-12 Lusmagh 1-7

Tullamore, lining out without Cillian Bane and Peter Kelly won this in the first half when their forwards hit form and they scored at will. Gearóid O’Grady, playing at left half forward was particularly sharp while, at the other end, Lusmagh struggled to score, though Adrian Lynch’s goal reduced the...

Re: St Michaels vs St Colemans

And the under21 matches which are NOT going ahead are still up on the fixture list while the weekend's hurling matches which we presume are still going ahead are not up yet. I see in this, the wettest August in over 20 years the driest pitch in the county has again been omitted when arranging venues...

Senior Hurling Championship round 3

Halfway through the senior hurling championship – twelve matches gone and eleven to go. This week half the clubs will check out of SHC towers. Kinnitty were probably the most impressive performers in the last round, followed by Tullamore, Coolderry (1st half) and Birr. On the other hand, Kilcormac, ...

Re: SHC Q-Final query

I can see Kinnitty's problem here, in that if they top their group and didn't get an automatic semi-final slot theres a 50:50 chance they'd draw Birr in the quarter final given thaey can't get the runner up in their own group. Tullamore on the other hand, can't get Birr in the quarter final draw if ...

Coolderry 2-15 St. Rynagh’s 3-3.

Coolderry gave a dazzling display of forward play in the first half to take a 2-12 to 0-1 lead to the dressing room at half time. ’Rynagh’s only score of the half didn’t come until just before the break. ’Rynagh’s scored two quick goals at the start of the second half and a comeback looked on but th...

Kinnitty 2-17 Shinrone 0-8

Kinnitty had an emphatic win over Shinrone at Banagher last night. They were already well in control nearing half time when Fergal Kealey’s two well taken goals gave them a 2-9 to 0-4 half time lead. Shinrone were very poor and will get it hard enough to beat Clareen next time out though a win there...

Tullamore 2-19 Drumcullen 0-9

If ever a final scoreline was misleading this was it. Tullamore held a slender 0-13 to 0-9 lead on the three quarter mark when Harry Ryan was dismissed for a second yellow. Minutes later, Shane Dooley blasted a good goal from 20 metres and the floodgates opened after that. Dooley scored his second g...
