Re: Offaly County Board Thread
Look, a huge issue is clubs not doing enough work at underage and with the primary and secondary schools. If the clubs had the demand for more games, more competitions and more coaching courses and workshops then the county board might respond Is there any club in the county that you could hold up a...

Re: Offaly v Carlow, Leinster round robin Saturday 7th May
On a different note, I'm slightly bemused by the assertion that "hurling has become more a team game now in recent years, as opposed to a game for individuals where yo 'bate' the ball as long and as far as you can and it was up to the next fella to win his own ball". It's been quite a few...

Re: Offaly v Westmeath, Mullingar, Sunday 1st May
You play the system that best suits your players modern Kilkenny under Cody have gone for big strong men all around 6ft who are willing to buy into the manager's system. Look at Walter Walsh - a poor enough player but he can dominate opponents, he would not have made Kilkenny teams in the past. Its ...

Re: Offaly v Westmeath, Mullingar, Sunday 1st May
The sad thing is, Westmeath underage hurling is not very well organised and it's really a few clubs doing the development work. It's not like the county extra finding or coaches or anything.

Re: Offaly Schools Hurling
Why do even more rural counties, like Roscommon have a higher third level attendance rate than Offaly?
And therefore, more lads probably playing Sigerson football.

Anyone I've talked to in Westmeath has said they've a poor team next year and into the next few years.

Re: Leinster Club Championship
I noticed Clonkill featured a Gary Healy in goal last Sunday. Anyone know if he's the Banagher native and former St Rynagh's player? Yeah, think so Clonkill are a serious club to hoover up new players who move to Mullingar, with contacts in about 4 football clubs with no parish rule you could be li...

Re: Leinster Club Championship
physical strength really comes to the fore in the last 15/20 minutes imho
the strength and endurance needed to keep going, shipping heavy hits and making the correct decisions under pressure.
rucks forming are generally from players making an incorrect decision when on the ball

Re: What are they smoking in Birr?
It is happening in every county. clubs that rest on their laurels and past glories generally get left behind and only begin to wonder what went wrong after it is too late too many clubs keep too close an eye on what the neighbour is doing and keeping them down, instead of looking to see what the bes...
