Laois

You've got one long term injury and one defection and you think you're in crisis!. Cue violins. At the moment the way things are going Offaly mightn't have a team for O'Moore Park. I notice the Offaly Laois hurling game is on live, not often this happens, apart from that game of water polo 2 years a...

Re: KKCats.com

Agreed, 'tis sadly missed by me anyway. There were some very knowledgeable hurling contributors thereon. It's always good to keep an eye on what opposing counties are up to. I particularly used to enjoy Arrigle's contributions which became increasingly scarce since he began writing for the Irish Tim...

Offaly u-21 hurling 2008

Westmeath play Carlow in Mullingar this Saturday in the 'special' final with the winners to play Offaly at the end of the month.

I suppose Carlow should beat Westmeath on the basis of their recent underage prowess?

The weekend so far . . .

The county hurling championship burst to life around eight o’clock last night with Tullamore’s sensational 3-9 to 0-15 win over Birr at Moystown. It was Francis Kerringan’s bullet of a goal from a tight angle in the last minute which gave them this win, their first over Birr since 1994, and the musi...

A few thoughts on the first round of the race for Sean Robbi

I know it’s one of sport’s more overused clichés but this year’s county senior hurling championship looks like it will be the most intriguing championship in a decade, for a number of reasons. While All-Ireland club finalists, Birr, will again start as favourites for the title, the effect a winter’s...

Midnight in Moystown

That's very late  They could have fixed it so the lads could get a pint afterwards!

Drumcullen parish

I had a look at some figures from the 2006 census last night. The population for the Drumcullen catchment area is listed as:- Drumcullen 334 Eglish 165 Killyon 255 That gives a total of 754. On reflection, while the parish covers a big area, much of it is bog, for example along the back road from Ra...

U-21 Hurling Club Championship semi finals last night

I see Clareen beat ’Rynagh’s by seven points in the semi-final last night. Now Clareen have had a bit of an Indian sign over ’Rynagh’s at senior level for some time now but a small parish beating a town side at an underage level is a major achievement. Obviously Clareen are driven by Joseph Bergin. ...

O'Connor Park fixtures

It is, aye, and if Kildare beat Wicklow in the first round they play Laois in OCP.
azoffaly wrote:If Westmeath beat Longford in May, I think the Offaly - Westmeath game is in Tullamore. Plus at least the footballers got promoted, so it's a bit harsh to say they are going 'nowhere'.

Re: Hanniffy bows out

It's eleven on my count, being the first eleven Bord na Mona man listed. Gary didn't appear in the 1997 match against Meath in Mullingar. He made his championship debut in the next round against Laois. Thats according to "The Music of the Ash". Actually Ger Oakley played in that match in M...
