Re: Offaly GAA is in Some State

Interesting reading. Some excellent, balanced, well- thought out points, some bordering on rants, but can't be faulted for passion, and there is something of merit in every post. The issue I see here is that there are too many issues- many angles to many problems, but problems exist to be solved or ...

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2014

Ahlethimoutwithit got there ahead of me, nearly word for word. To my mind, there was a vast difference in the tactical set up on both days. At most, there was 2 brought deep against Westmeath, and they generally patrolled midfield, and were available as an outlet to create overlaps when coming from ...

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2014

Been mulling over the game all day, and read the posts here, stuff on facebook, hoganstand, etc. I think the tactics last night didn't suit this team; the plan was containment, and obviously it backfired badly, so I'm wondering if the team had gone man to man from the start, how might the game have ...

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2014

Gutted for the lads this evening; a nightmare from start to finish. Missed getting a program, so didn't get names of Dublin players, but numbers 3, 9 and 10 were huge men. There was a complete system breakdown; the game plan failed miserably. As was said earlier, there's no point playing everyone be...

Re: Offaly Under 16

Just seen on Club Faithful facebook- Offaly 1-11, Kildare 0-11; a fantastic result!! In the final again, brilliant if they could get 2 in a row, would help establish a consistent run at minor level.
Well done to all management and players, and all the behind the scenes support. Onwards and upwards!!!

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2014

5 changes- one third of a team!! On the hoganstand Dublin page over a fair while, posters have been suggesting that the Dublin team was disjointed, and management didn't seem to know their best combination. This could work either way tomorrow- either a strong, cohesive line up, or a team with doubts...

Re: Offaly Minor Management A Complete Joke

Read through this thread this morning, because of a reference to Offaly's Future in the other thread got me curious. It's interesting to see what the future as perceived in 2008 held, and how things are now.
Plus ça change, plus ça meme chose (pardon my French!!)

Re: Strength And Conditioning

I would imagine strength and conditioning has been talked about for so long now that other counties have a massive head start on Offaly regardless what was done this year or last year. If Clare last year, going by Loughnane's logic, represents the pinnacle of modern application of strength and condi...

Re: how offaly should spend the 45k hurling dev grant.

I have been involved with football squads before, and always at this time of year there would naturally be a drop-off in numbers because of the Junior Cert. What we did was take a two week break for the duration of the exams, and before that group up with the u15s for a week or two, because the Juni...

I respect and admire the willingness of those who revealed their identity, especially those frequent posters who offer constructive criticisms and opinions. However, I think it's disappointing if it does eventually lead to others deciding not to post, and also it would seem unfair if those that choo...

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2014

According to hoganstand, a home semi vs Dublin, who beat Meath 15-12 today. If Offaly go for them, I really believe they'll be preparing for a Leinster final. Obviously without going gung ho and neglecting defensive duties, I believe that, for this particular team, attack is the best form of defence...

Re: Offaly Minor Football 2014

Brilliant first half, totally outplayed and outclassed Westmeath. Excellent in defence, great movement and variation in attack. Bit of a wobble midway through second half, when the tactics seemed to be changed to a shut-out attempt; inviting Westmeath to attack, and a better team could inflict more ...

Re: Offaly Minor hurling 2014

Wexford 0-18 Offaly 1-9
Following Twitter for updates, looked by half time with the late goal and the breeze to come that the 2nd half was there for the winning, but not to be. Commiserations to team and management.
