Re: Offaly v Leix Round 3 Qualifier

Yea good summary but button. We tried very hard and had some good moments but just fell to the better team. I had to que up for 15 mins to get a ticket and was never as happy to do so. There was a right buzz about which is badly needed. And good Offaly crowd. Hope theres a good crowd for the under 2...

Re: Joe McDonagh cup

While far from being a cheerleader for the county board and Tommy Byrne, if people are calling for wholesale changes at board level due to the hurling results, does an honourable run in the football qualifiers warrant widespread praise. Or does John Maughan take the plaudits for that. Being involved...

Re: Joe McDonagh cup

Im on about the end outcome. People have been saying we need to concentrate on underageand get back competing. Its unrealistic. And suppose we have a great crop of youngsters come up. Then what. There is no guarantee they will stay playing in lower tiers. Thats based on the gaa basically ignoring th...

Re: Joe McDonagh cup

Having the games televised on tg4 will be great for the diehard but little else. Suppose we get our underage going again. A young lad in dublin kilkenny etc is dreaming of winning all irelands and prime time slots on rte on a Sunday. The same Offaly youngster has what to look forward too? Replacing ...

Re: Joe McDonagh cup

The results of late should not be a shock to anyone. All the underage results at school and developement squad levels have been there to see. We are where we are. One of the biggest problems we have in the county is the almost even split of priority. Half football half hurling. This shall always be ...

Re: 2018 NHL

Unlike some i didnt get carried away with the result last weekend and headed into tullamore hoping to stay within 6/7 points of limerick. Few things struck me at the game. Although limerick are young they are all physically well developed. Number 17 who started was a massive young fella and to be ab...

Re: National Hurling League 2017

File under horseshite if you like, but something I've been thinking about and chatted about over pints now and again, albeit originally from an S/C perspective in football, but from following threads on hurling here, I think it could work for hurling too. If we take it that the problems with the cu...

Re: National Hurling League 2017

With all the talk and blame going to the county board ive one question. Why didnt all the so called hurling clubs around birr rally together and nominate one of their own to chairman of board. Ive seen countless underage games and in general its the couple of stronger players on teams dictate result...

Re: Offaly v Westmeath, Mullingar, Sunday 1st May

the ball has finally dropped with some but i worry. the birr debate has come and gone, the k/k debate has come and gone, and here we are. i have been to a lot of club hurling and football for that matter and with due respect to players involved, the standard is not worth the entry fee. the sad reali...

Re: 2015 SFC Final - Edenderry vs. Rhode 11/10/15

Best team won. I tried to convince myself that Rhode were going to up there game for the final but having watched the match I think they are slowly on the decline. Today they were overly reliant on niall McNamee and came off second best in too many areas. Could well win a championship next year but ...

Re: Offaly Hurling Championships 2015

yea there was great effort and an honesty to the play, cant fault that. as I said already coolderry will take beating in county final. they are an above average team and play to their strengths. yea I take your point that there was good defensive play from both sides but wayward passing had a lot to...

Re: 2015 SFC Final - Edenderry vs. Rhode 11/10/15

I think edenderry are building a good team but are two or three years away from peaking. Rhode should cover the handicap.

Re: Offaly Hurling Championships 2015

Coolderry Vs Birr. Its a hard game to analysis. Mainly cause Both defence were on top for most of the game. Joe Brady vs Rory Hanniffy duel went the way of Brady by a huge amount. The Coolderry goals killed the game. Birr will be very disappointed with part of there game but from a manager point of...

Re: Offaly Hurling Championships 2015

birr were in trouble at half time only a point up after playing with the wind. Coolderry pushed on in the second half and done the job but the standard wasn't great in the game. still though coolderry can improve and on there day have a forward line that will pose problems for most teams. st rynaghs...
