Re: McManus ends Offaly career

I hope he can be persuaded otherwise either now or sometime next year before the championship. In the last few years he has been the ultimate team player. Was it in Limerick he closed out a game for us this spring, getting fouled as he cleared the ball, taking the free from where it landed and putti...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurling Management 2012

If Paudge Mulhare and Mark Corrigan have a good eye for a player and can work out who fits best together in the Offaly senior hurling team then I don't care how long they've been around. There are very few people around with the same passion for Offaly hurling as Paudge Mulhare. He would have done a...

Teehan believes vote ends debate on league format OFFALY CHAIR Pat Teehan is credited by some present at Tuesday night’s Central Council meeting with having made the keynote speech in the debate on next year’s national league structures. The meeting narrowly failed (22-14) to summon the two-thirds ...

Eugenes filled up rapidly after the Edenderry victory on Sunday, not surprising given the family connection!!

Re: Hurling All Stars Joke

Joe Bergin stood out to me this year more than Shane Dooley, whereas Shane had an incredible 2010. If the two of them are on song next year and the new manager makes an impact Offaly might do some damage.

Re: Minor Championship

I remember seeing a St.Broughans/ Eire Og parish team playing in the Senior championship some year not so long ago. They were hammered the same night but they were allowed compete in senior. I don't recall any calls for Clonbullogue, Bracknagh or Walsh Island to disband to make way for the senior pa...

Re: Offaly Hurlers catch a break?

Agreed that it would be rough on Carlow for 2012 but they'd be favourites for promotion to a decent division with a number of beatable teams. Perhaps it could be introduced in 2013 rather than 2012. Then everybody would know what they're getting into. Anyway I think it's the best proposal yet for hu...

Re: Offaly Hurlers catch a break?

These proposals make a lot of sense and I hope they're proposed & adopted. I imagine some counties will feel a bit miffed though - Wexford after their great results in the last few Div 1 games and Limerick who think that they are promoted. Also the counties ranked 13 and 14 in the League. Offaly...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurling Management 2012

Donal O'Grady would be ideal if possible. You can see the development in the way Limerick play the game and they're good mentally too - when Clare headed them down the stretch in the Division 2 final they just picked themselves up, drove on again and closed out the game.

Re: Offaly Senior Hurling Management 2012

Francis Forde for me!!!! If not Francis Forde then another outside manager who knows the modern game. Our players badly need coaching in the skills and tactical approach now needed -especially catching contested balls, winning the breaks on the ground, lifting the sliotar into the hand and finding t...

Re: Offaly V Monaghan, SFC qualifier, 25/6/2011

The Karol Slattery collision reminded me of Sean Grennan turnovers that led to one or both of the early goals in the 1997 Leinster final against Meath. Tommy Lyons drew attention to Grennan's role in the goals afterwards with the players - sometimes the turnover gets forgotten!

Re: Offaly V Monaghan, SFC qualifier, 25/6/2011

Great display from 1 to 15. I was proud of Offaly tonight. They drove on through adversity when Monaghan came back to level in the first half and then kept their foot to the floor throughout the 2nd half.

I hope that Darby is o.k. - he was flying all night.

Good stuff!! Tried to post a comment but I'm not sure if it is going through.

Can't wait for the American football lockout to get sorted. I'm starved for news on training camp and free agency.

Come on Offaly this weekend!!

Re: Lets start playing the club championships again

I agree that it is difficult for club senior teams who depend on vital dual players (and I know that Tullamore are struggling this year even with Shane Dooley) but I still think that it would be better for Offaly clubs and county teams if some way was found for club championship to continue side by ...
