Re: minor football and hurling

A 4-6 run without reply against Meath in Championship. Absolutely amazing. I have to think back to 80 minute senior games more than 40 years ago for anything similar!!

Anybody at it?

Congrats to Offaly.

A day out in Croker in a few weeks and already something achieved for 2013.

Re: Allianz-Hurling-league 1B

I think that the current league structure suits Offaly perfectly. We would be nowhere near strong enough to compete in Division 1A and would most likely lose all 5 games by an average of 8-10 points. That would not be of any benefit to the team. This way, we have a chance of winning most games and ...

Re: Pat Teehan's legacy

From the outside - it seems like Pat Teehan ran the meetings well and brought everything back on to an even keel! Other people may reap the benefits but Pat Teehan laid a decent foundation!! I like the last appointment - Emmett McDonnell is one for the future, in the tradition of Diarmuid Healy and ...

Re: Official Offaly Senior Hurling Team Thread 2013

I agree with everything townman says above! Especially great to see Stephen Egan back. He could be intercounty football and hurling if he wanted. Genuine talent.

Re: Brendan Murphy retires

Congratulations to Brendan on a fine inter-county career. I share the great memories mentioned above - particularly of his break-out first year and then the crucial goal against Limerick in Thurles. He's got a lot to be proud of. He was unfortunate that his inter-county career coincided with Offaly'...

Re: 1981 All Ireland Final - Kerry v Offaly

Thanks POTH. That brings back to me all the arguments around then. There's still a residual resentment against the handpass - the refereeing interpretation changes every so often and Congress wouldn't need much encouragement to restrict it severely. I think that might help Offaly. Unfortunately Offa...

Re: 1981 All Ireland Final - Kerry v Offaly

One key difference in 1982 compared to 1981 - the GAA imposed a stricter interpretation of the hand pass. That change in rule interpetation bridged the gap between Offaly and Kerry in passing technique. The 1982 game was a brilliant exhibition notable for brilliant point taking and Offaly matched Ke...

Re: McDonnell in running for Offaly football job

Muck Savage said it all best! I'm encouraged by everything I hear about Emmett and his brother Gordon. According to Kevin Corrigan Gordon was at the Cappincur-Birr game last week. That's hitting the ground running! The new manager should go with a new panel and resist the temptation to go back to th...

Re: McDonnell in running for Offaly football job

Fr. Heaney was Chairman when Offaly had two relative unknowns as managers - Eugene McGee and Diarmuid Healy. Look how that turned out! I remember well that Tommy Lyons was a dark horse when he got the Offaly job. By the way, in answer to townman, Dave Kavanagh gave some of his best years to Offaly i...
