Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2023

It was the exact same format as last year. Westmeath had to navigate a semi final before playing Down in the final who had already topped the group. My bad Frank you are correct it was the same last year. I don't think it is a particularly unfair system especially when there are just 5 rounds invol...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2023

Not exactly rocket science but think it will fall between two from Kildare Kerry and Offaly with possibly Down or Carlow having impact on which two it is. Here's the thing.....the inside of the back cover of todays programme states that the 1st placed team are into the final on the 1st or 2nd of Ap...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2023

Down topped division 2A last year and were only beaten in the final by Westmeath who for some reason were allowed field a Galway senior hurler who helped himself to 3 goals......hardly cricket that! Going up there was never going to be easy. OK so the lads struggled to close out the game despite the...

Re: NFL Div 3 predictions 2023

Nigel Dunne was outstanding in this years club championship and is fully deserving of a spot on the county panel. Remember he isn't playing in near the goal with Offaly and is clearly doing a different role than he would with Shamrocks. I'd have no doubts about his ability as the league progresses h...

Re: NFL Div 3 predictions 2023

Still no word on Nialler? Media are talking like he's done but still nothing official. He was instrumental 2 years in getting Offaly up to Division 2 with those last 15 minute appearances when the game opened up, defences couldn't handle him. A similar tactic this year would be massive to close out ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football Team - Championship 2023

I may be in a minority of one, but I think Offaly footballers should have played Louth in the O’Byrne Cup semi final. There is a chance of winning the competition, and would be a boost ahead of the League. The difficulty is the third level competitions begin in January, as do the pre season provinc...

Re: Offaly hurling managers through the years

Kevin Ryan, Tom Fogarty, Eamon Kelly, John McIntyre twice for 4 years. Jesus Wept. You can throw Sid in there too Frank, lets be honest he was a disaster. Playing Kevin Connolly as a sweeper in the 2014 Nowlan Park massacre was the worst set up ever witnessed. Followed by being humbled by Laois in ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football Team - Championship 2023

Every year I can convince myself that our county has a team well capable of holding their own in division 2 and then inevitably come January we hear about this lad retired, these lads injured, this lad on a tour of duty, that lad going travelling and on and on and before you know it you are wonderin...

And why aren’t we playing a home game in Birr?
I'll start the official Birrometer.
Number of days since fella's are calling for intercounty games to be moved to Birr:

Re: Club football managers 22/23

I would hope Pat releases a statement to set out why he left. After careful reflection....Brought the group as far as he could...A fresh voice in the dressing room needed...Thanking all the club officials for their support throughout his time there and reflecting on the friendships made. Nah, I'd k...

Lets hope our county hurlers aren't thinking of dismissing Kildare in the Joe McDonagh next year.
It could be a difficult campaign.

Re: League & Championship hurling 2022

That's a serious hammering for Shinrone by Naas. Where is offaly hurling at?? 15 Point victory is emphatic. It's hard to know how much of a barometer the All Club Championships really are. Remember Offaly clubs contested both the 2012 and 2013 All Ireland hurling finals but our senior county hurler...

Ah shur Frank a grand or two is nothing to GAA clubs these days.
Most are pissing 10-15k a year down the drain on chancers masquerading as managers.
