Re: NFL Div 3 predictions 2023

As it happens, I was in Ederney for Fermanagh's win over Longford. Very simple football, but well executed by Fermanagh. Daragh McGurn was very involved from centre forward, and Che Cullen completely shut down David McGivney, who was the lynchpin of the Longford attack in the O'Byrne Cup final. Offa...

Re: Offaly Minor Football and Hurling 2023

The fact that St. Kieran's just won their semi-final convincingly would suggest to me that the final will be a very high quality, competitive affair, and that might save the concept of Offaly Schools for another while, particularly if it is explained that this is an anomaly of a year (which it is). ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football Team - Championship 2023

Yes, we're missing players next year - but it's easy to look at Offaly and say that we'll miss John Moloney, and we'll miss Jordan Hayes, and Eoghan Rigney, and possibly a few more too, including (it seems) the most talented footballer the county has known for a generation. But that's the reality of...

Re: Tullamore parentage motion

Just out of interest, I noted that Killybegs in Donegal brought pretty much the same motion to tonight's Donegal GAA convention. It secured 54% of the vote, but needed 60% to carry, so was voted down.

Re: GAA Season Ticket 2023

I’d agree with most of the above but I think if you tried the two tier OAP pass, almost all will opt for the cheaper option because what’s the incentive not to? Just on this, I think if you market it on the basis that we're able to do the discounted ticket because we believe in the honesty of those...

Re: GAA Season Ticket 2023

I can see both sides of this. As a societal group, there is a huge amount of wealth in the pension-age cohort of people, and as POTH hinted at, the pensions available to people of that age who worked their full 40 years (or close enough to it) in either the public sector or the big semi-state employ...

Re: Tullamore parentage motion

Apparently tullamore have withdrawn the motion This is correct, Tullamore put out a press release this evening as follows: Tullamore GAA have decided to withdraw their proposed motion around the parentage rule. The club is committed to supporting the three children who currently cannot be members o...

Re: Tullamore parentage motion

Won't this work both ways though? I know that just across the Barrow from me in Laois, you can declare for, or transfer to, your parent's home club and it doesn't get in to too much detail about length of membership or anything either. Quite a few young lads then start out with, or move to, their d...

Re: Tullamore parentage motion

I'm very curious as to how this will go - my gut feeling is that it will struggle to pass, but I haven't spoken to too many people at home that are involved in club committees, as they would have a better feel for how clubs have received it. I think it's fair to say that if it was applied in the way...

Re: Club football managers 22/23

I was an active member of the Ferbane club executive at the time when there was a serious transition in the top table, and there was recognition in both ends of the parish that the pulling and dragging between managers was holding both clubs back, and that the way to change it had to start with ensu...

Re: Club football managers 22/23

That would be a smashing appointment by Ferbane to be fair. Could be a great fit for all concerned. I'm far from sure of that. In his time in charge of St. Loman's, Declan Kelly was immensely successful but he wasn't known for encouraging dual players to commit equally to both codes. Now it's entir...

Re: League & Championship hurling 2022

It doesn't need to be a monsoon. Even moderate rain makes people want to come in for shelter, and there have been quite a few recent county finals played in very wet conditions. The drawn football final last year, it was wet for the hurling decider as well, albeit light rain, and Rhode's win over Tu...

Re: League & Championship hurling 2022

I've no idealogical objection to that idea - again, subject to the caveat that there's a lot of promotion you could do with 1,000 extra people at the gate paying €20 to get in, so if there is a bump of that scale going to Birr, then of course that would be a huge point in their favour. However if th...

Re: League & Championship hurling 2022

LS but its not just about figures of attendance and apparenty the feeling of the county board is to give the traditional hurling area where most county finals been won hurling matches in SBP I really dont think this is a crime and all it does is give more visability to hurling all over the county. ...

Re: League & Championship hurling 2022

Lone shark some of your points are based on information from about 7 or 8 years ago and aren't up to date. Birr warm up area is not across the n62 it's in school pitch the other side of the ground. The ground now holds over 12,000 and the stands holds between 2 and 3000 not 1500 like you said. When...
