Re: Trouble brewing in Offaly?
Can anyone tell me about the process behind Richie Connor's appointment? I know Laz Molloy had assembled a 'team' and that Stephen Darby was interviewed, was there anyone else? More importantly who sat on the commitee that interviewed these candidates, decided upon the questions and put forward Rich...

Re: offaly football draws
Group 1: Rhode, Shamrocks, Shannonbridge, Ballycumber. A very competitive group here no doubt. On paper it looks like Shannonbridge are in trouble but they never fear Rhode for some strange reason. A lot depends on what Shamrocks team show up this year. A rejuvenation under Dessie Dolan is extremel...

What about the following??: Ballinamere Durrow Clonbullogue Ballyfore Kilclonfert KK Birr Cappincur Ballycommon Raheen I would be stumped or out of my depth to be honest. Suggestions? Barry Whelehan has put in a good innings now with Birr in the big ball game. Edenderry- Peter brady and you have to...

Re: Leinster or Munster
It's Leinster all the way for me. Any grown man who supports another province over their own has a lot in common with 90% of the 8 and 9 nine year olds who pick one of the 'Big Four' in the U.K. for their success or chances of alone. The myth that Munster has some sort of 'parish' or 'salt of the ea...

The Club Great 1989-2009
We all have them. The hero who dragged you up from Junior A or the inspiration who kept you from crashing out of Senior. Who is your most influential club player of the last 20 years? I'll make a stab at it and feel free to enlighten us as to the reasons behind your most personal of decisions. Edend...

Re: structures and offaly football in general
Solid post. Needs an editing but I would definitly agree with a lot of your points. However without being overtly pessimistic I do believe that the 'achievement' in reaching that Leinster final of 2006 is somewhat tainted. Beating poor Wexford and Kildare sides hardly constitutes Offaly's arrival to...

Re: GPA and Cork Hurlers
Whatever your inclination it's clear that the whole debacle is one sordid mess. God love Cork because this could really linger. The controversy seems to have split anyone with an interest into three factions. 1)Those who are against the County Board and Frank Murphy. 2)Those who are against the play...

Re: Your Offaly Championship Team 2009
In theory Shark you are correct but my experience of playing and watching tells different. A two man full forward line with one lad dropping back means the opposition put a lad out around the middle as well. Keeping in mind that they are likely to be trying the same thing themselves that can mean 4...

Re: Offaly vs Dublin
That was as a depressing result as it gets in fairness. Even taking into account Dublin's 36 Senior football clubs and vast playing population. The fact that the top 40 Dublin players are training semi-professionally in La Manga while the 'development' squad are on tour, pushing Offaly around, speak...

Re: Richie Connor's first team selection
I wouldnt be too keen on seeing Butler playing. I never thought he was much of a footballer even at club level. He certainly knows how to thread a thin line when it comes to fouling but i wouldnt rate him at all. That is the trick, he doesn't need to be a footballer at all to be an effective back. ...

Re: St Vincents to enter a senior football team
Can anyone divulge what happened to the Killeigh/ Raheen combination of the mid 90's .
I do believe they were competitive in the Senior Championship.

Re: St Vincents to enter a senior football team
When opportunity knocks it must be seized with both hands. For players who were more than able to hold their own at an Underage 'A' level, to play at the highest club level should be the natural progression . I presume their existing Junior clubs will be still allowed to compete :?: Two Cappincur pl...

Re: First indication of football panel for 2009
I have a few reservations about that team above but I fully suuport calls for Keenaghens inclusion. I'd like to see Sean Ryan there as well. Himself and young Darby would be an explosive combination. Lets abandon the handpass and run at these defences like Malone did in '97 and '98. Sure ya may as ...
