Re: Offaly Minor hurling 2014

KC – A few years ago, following on from the Slattery Report, the GAA greatly reduced the capacity of grounds all over the Country. It was said at the time that basic improvements would make a big difference and this turned out to be the case with grounds that had their capacities reduced by up to 50...

Re: Offaly Minor hurling 2014

This game should have been played in St Brendan's Park as requested. It's a missed opportunity but hopefully next time.

The most important thing for now is to get behind the Minor team in a very important match.

Good luck to all involved.

Re: Offaly vs Limerick

Oh yes, we need to follow Limerick’s great example here. We need to get someone from our top table to apologise for our dreadful and shameful ‘home’ league result against a very poorly prepared Limerick team. Shur even Limerick admitted they were abysmal…..or at least they kind of did……or at least t...

Re: Offaly V Antrim part 1

KC - what is it with everything with offaly hurling being connected to birr – maybe it’s because 11 out of the 12 Senior clubs are within 20km of Birr whereas only 2 of the 12 (one of which is nearer to Birr) are within 20km of Tullamore? So you are right -‘this bringing hurling back to birr shite h...

Re: Offaly V Antrim part 1

Buttons - when you say ' going forward amalgamations have to happen if a team is to succeed ' I wonder what do you rate as a success? If you consider winning championships to be the measure of success then you will find that no matter how many amalgamations we have we will still have the same number...

Re: Accountability

I was referring to a lot of things but benefiting from playing hurling on a 'tighter' pitch was not one of them.

Re: Accountability

Where did I mention a 'tighter' pitch? You'll be accusing me of being in favour of moving hurling indoors next.

And if you think that is 'everything that is/has been wrong with Offaly for the past 20 years' then I suggest you delve a little deeper.

Nonsense is right.

Re: Accountability

Truesupporter – a very reasoned post compared to much of the shameful stuff that is going on here at the minute. And yes it is very easy to criticise managers and county board members under a pseudonym here but the same goes for the players and your post smacks of the unhelpful divide that exists be...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

At this stage I have no idea what the latest point you are trying to make under (1) is, so I guess it can’t be very important at this stage. I don’t have to correct anything but apologies as I can see how it could be easily misread. If you remove the full stop that you’ve added to my quote and read ...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

(1) Your initial point about it being ‘impossible to be a meaningful force without getting a worthwhile contribution from your key urban areas’ has at least now been revised to in ‘almost every leading hurling county, urban clubs lead the way’. Unfortunately, this revision is also greatly flawed. Fi...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

(1) Offaly itself has already proven your point wrong by showing it is possible. But to go one further on your theory here are the number of players from the clubs you listed that were on their respective county teams last year Thurles Sars 2 , Mount Sion 0 , De la Salle 2 , Blackrock 0 , St Finbarr...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

(1) Ok so things change but that doesn’t mean they change for the better. Now that you’ve hit on it, did moving hurling to Portlaoise do anything to improve the geographical spread or standard of hurling in the county? (2) Keeping people off a pitch doesn’t make it drier. It proves that the pitch is...

Re: Hurling to return to St Brendan's Park

LS - In reply to your comment before last - (1) Excuse my ignorance but I’d be very interested to know when the county finals were moved out of Tullaroan as they are the club with the most county titles in Kilkenny (20) but only 1 in the last 66 years. It would seem not to have done much for mighty ...
