Re: Leinster club championships 2017
Hard luck to the team and management. It looks to me that they assumed/ gambled on winning aerial battles on puckouts. Within minutes it was obviously going horribly wrong, so it's difficult to adjust midstream, especially with an element of panic setting in. Also looks as though they underestimated...

Re: 2018 NHL
In Roscommon, 12 Senior A teams in two groups of 6, A and B, same in Intermediate. 5 group games, after which -The top 2 in A go straight to semi-final -3 and 4 in A play 1 and 2 from B in quarter finals. -I know in Intermediate top two from B play in Group A the following year, and the Bottom two f...

Re: 2018 NFL
Rightly, or wrongly people will see the trip to Dunnes Stores as the yardstick for whether Stephen Wallace has moved the team forward. Pat Flanagan went there 3 times in 2 years, including two championship fixtures and didn't bring home the groceries. I believe this is the key reason he got shelved...

Re: NFL
Think this will be a very competitive division. No real gimmes stand out, and I'd say any team capable of beating any others on a given day. For any team to lose, say, their first two games, that could leave them playing catch up if they have any interest in promotion, and I could see several teams ...

Re: Faithful Fields
Will be a significant step towards improving Offaly's fortunes in both codes, (plus, presumably, for the ladies also), but needs to be backed up with well-informed and properly supported coaching personnel for all levels. I see huge potential here: centralised s/c monitoring, day blitzes for school ...

Re: New Managers for 2018
Wishing the man and his backroom team the best of luck. I think there's a good squad available, and talented young players that, if looked after, can make real progress in the next couple of years. Under Flanagan's reign I think good progress was made re s/c, so there's a good platform there already...

Re: Offaly hurling manager??
In an ideal world, a big name with proven credentials would be a tonic, and every effort should be made to go after someone of this calibre, BUT these type of managers pick their projects carefully- they don't go where they don't think they'll make significant progress. There are a number of factors...

Re: Offaly GAA - in Crisis
That is a fact I reckon half the lads here are either county board lads or related to them. It's a shame what happened and really noting can be done unless good people take the plunge to get involed. This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an impor...

http://www.irishexaminer.com/sport/gaa/hurling/state-of-offaly-hurling-absolutely-deplorable-455159.html It's a good read. They a comment here that I want to pick up on. The hurling changed about 15 years ago and left Offaly behind. I think this is wrong, What happened. Was Offaly appointed manager...

Re: Offaly GAA - in Crisis?
Learned how to quote this evening- great moment for the parish!! Speaking of quotes, this one from Douglas Adams- I've often used it in political discussions, but I think it is apt for county boards also: "You mean, it comes from a world of lizards?" "No," said Ford, who by this ...

Re: Offaly GAA - in Crisis?
Just for the avoidance of doubt, but isn't it the Implementation Committee that has resigned? The Review committee is a different group who are reviewing the hurling team managements and whose work remains unaffected. Just seen on facebook the hurling review committee have resigned en masse. This, ...

Re: Offaly GAA - in Crisis?
Just seen on facebook the hurling review committee have resigned en masse. This, and Pat Flanagan's interview: GUB rather than GUBU, although the scale and proximity of these revelations may indeed be unprecedented. I would have always made allowances for people on the board given that I would not k...

Re: County Management Stability
I'm presuming (never a good thing to do as far as Offaly GAA is concerned) that they have a backup plan in place and they know who the next manager is going to be. Flanagan, as previously stated, brought stability and direction to the team. Player power - committee power? According to one tweet I re...

Re: Offaly vs. Waterford 2017 Hurling Qualifier
Just saw a tweet from Laois GAA congratulating their u15 hurlers beating Offaly today- A 6-19 to 2-6, B 2-16 to 11. Club first. Primary school augments. Secondary school develop further. Development squads...develop. County minor, county u20, county senior. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest ...
