Offaly Senior Championships - Tipsters Competition

How now Folks. Blatantly robbing the idea from GAAboard, I think we should have a tipping competition here, based on the Offaly senior championships. I propose the format be as follows: (i) One Competition, football and hurling combined. Most people will by nature lean towards one or the other, but ...

Club Games

Now we're away and flying! Couple of things here - I'll do previews in a while when I get the chance to sit down and look at them, but in the meantime, a few things jump out at me - (1) Venues - some of which make great sense, but seriously Clara v Doon Shannonbridge Gracefield v St. Brigids Rhode N...

Relegation

You would, but my take is that that's the case in two out of four divisions anyway - and this would be compensated for by the fact that more games would be "local" games, which are competitive by their very nature. I think the games where teams tend to be not bothered are when they've trav...

Potential football leagues reformatted.

Following on from the point I read somewhere that Dublin haven't met Meath or Kildare for years in the league, the thought occurred to me - while personally I think the leagues should revert to a div 1/2/3/4 format, assuming we want to keep the current system - local rivalries are the lifeblood of t...

Starting 15

At this stage I'd say a lot of the jerseys are nailed on. Here's my read anyway. 1 I'd still have McNamara , but Kelly will probably start. 2 Froggy will start - I'm not convinced yet though. Not having been in Donegal at the weekend, it's hard to comment though. 3 Evans will start. I'd have Raffert...

We just have to keep it together against the Dubs. Maybe try a couple of different players too. I'd say that there'd be a lot of merit going into the summer with three games unbeaten. Much and all as I'd like to see others tried, I'd say realistically there's only one or two spots left up for grabs...

Selection bias.

I'm not well enough up on the schools hurling scene to really comment on this. There were a few there all right who didn't look great, but in truth it'd be unfair for me to say whether it was a one off bad day or selection bias. From what I could tell the selectors were all Banagher based, so that w...

Great win in Donegal

Have to hold my hand up and say that the trip here was a little much for my blood. The option of a full day's sleep and lots of Easter Egg eating was just too much to turn down. By all accounts an excellent performance, with only the usual stuff about too many wides darkening the day. Still, it's gr...

At any level, an All Ireland medal is a prized item, rarely won easily. This particular competition, with only four counties entering this year, represents one of the best chances a young hurler will have to become an All Ireland champion. This considered, Saturday’s semi final represents a missed o...

John Kenny

I'd say Johnny is more of an auxilliary "around the middle" kind of guy as well. He's not really a forward in the truest sense of the word either. I've said it plenty before, and it probably comes across as nagging now, but I still couldn't have him in a championship team, he's just not fa...

You'd have to wonder

Seriously, is he blind as well as conceited??? I respect the man's ability, but he above all people must know how often he gets yellow carded, which is a no-no for the league. Equally, his club form, while good, was not so good all last year that he was a shoo-in. The only slot really open to him is...

Forwards

I'd say that a large part of why we don't have more forwards on the bench is that Grennan excepted, all our midfielders are of the attacking variety, and could easily play as half forwards. Where I see an issue is for other real inside forwards to take over if the Niall and Jimmy inside line is not ...

Yesterday.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed yesterdays game - good scoring, drama, and a tense finish where we didn't get the customary kick in the teeth. Twas quite championship-like in it's own way. Regarding the match itself, I'm a little all over the place. There's the good points - we played very well a...

Roy

While you don't want to see a whole load of stroppy campers, I can see why he was annoyed - I think he was making a good impact, and was one of our better forwards yesterday. I understand he's not a huge scoring threat, but I've great time for his ball winning. In particular I think he could have be...
