Re: Clubs in the doldrums
No I am not blaming Vincent's at all. I am not blaming anyone, what's the point, that is not constructive. What I am saying is that the structure/model is not fit for purpose. As a product of the regime myself I see the amount of players lost due to lack of opportunities to play not because of any o...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums
You can't make an omellete without breaking some eggs. A complete review is the first step required. The aim has to be get as many Daingean players onto the field. Even if they struggle to get the numbers it has to be the only option to improve the club. If the standard of these teams are poor and t...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums
It hard to turn into a slagging match. Tut tut. Not so Daleamar, in fact many our of your posts made perfect sense and would be worth brining to Vincents. I still think that Daingean require an underage structure that is fit for purpose with a core mission of getting as many young Daingean players ...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums
Yep Fargo, best of luck with that. Would there be a D championship with 7 aside games for Daingean. By the way have you heard of Na Fianna, Broughans, DER gaels, Fer/Bel (plus Shannonbridge), Ballycumber/Tubber, Shamrocks/KK/St Rynaghs/ Graefield are there own club's and parish. Vincents is the way...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums
What i mean is that this does not happen in too many other counties only Offaly. Many rural clubs in other counties can barely scrap together a team yet the last thing they would do is join up with another club. Most clubs throughout the country have their underage structure as part of the club but ...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums
The bastardised system is doing no one any good. No other county has such an underage system and when I discuss the structure with other county men they can't understand it. Daingean school has approx 30 boys for each underage category. Daingean should concentrate on keeping these lads in the game b...

Re: Junior Football Championship
Best of luck to K/K in the final. By far the best team at this grade and some fine footballers as well. Huge physical strength especially through the spine of the team. I'd say they are eyeing up the double and fair play if it can be done. One thing for sure is that K/K will be representing Offaly i...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums
Oh i see another thinnly veiled "lets have another bash at Daingean" thread.
Let me throw my two cents into the mix. St Vincents underage structure is killing Daingean football. There I said it, its off my chest now.
*cue vigourous attacks on my opinion

Re: Intermediate Football Championship
It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times. The thoughts of this most eagerly-awaited Intermediate Football Championship clash left many a man salivating in the week leading up to the big match. I made my way by automobile to the designated match location, arriving almost 30 minutes befor...

Re: 1981 All Ireland Final - Kerry v Offaly
Jaysus that was brilliant. With 10 minutes left I'm sure everyone at it thought it was over when they went 4 points down and it looked like Kerry were cruising. Who would have dreamed that finish! Have to say Offaly got 3 handy frees in a row near the end which brought them back into range but we'll...

Re: What lessons can Offaly learn from Donegal?
1996 Offaly exit the c'ship after a 3 pt loss to a poor Louth team, the years before exits were more painful 10 pt to Meath in '95, 2 pts to Wexford in '94 (when Wexford didn't play football) and 11 pts to Kildare in '93. Offaly football was in div 4, with no confidence of getting out of the baseme...

Re: 1981 All Ireland Final - Kerry v Offaly
1982 final is on now as part of the John Egan season. Couple of points to note: That Offaly jersey is class, we should see a return of this Offaly make 3 hand passes in a row to which O Hehir comments that Offaly are doing a lot of hand passing. It's lucky that Micheal was not around to see the 250 ...

Re: Man in Offaly jersey
I'm nearly positive but didn't Smokey himself help Hitler load the gun that he used to kill himself in the underground bunker in Berlin. Rumour has it he done a line with Eva Braun before the invasion of Poland and was the man that actually introduced the couple at a bbq at the Pull inn.
