Re: On this day 25 years ago
The problems boiled down to Keating not being fully tuned in to the role, disowning problems and pinning it on the players, public denouncements instead of keeping it in the dressing room and the style of hurling he wanted not suiting Offaly. A few weeks previously he was on the brink of resigning w...

Re: On this day 25 years ago
Yes, I had forgotten that about Antrim quip. If Keating had remained in charge, they would have had serious motivation to tear into Offaly. Antrim's preparations were disrupted by the Drumcree situation so their hurling still wouldn’t have been up to mark. But the kind of slashing that Jackie Carson...

On this day 25 years ago
July 5 1998 Leinster hurling Final Kilkenny 3-10 – Offaly 1-11 The defeat propelled Offaly firstly, into a mini-crisis but ultimately changed the course of the year. The match was widely slated as being of poor quality but maybe excessively so. Although there were 32,000 in Croke Park, the atmosphe...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2023
Thankfully the debate has moved on and the discussion is now about how we get our county players fit for purpose. A while back, people would have been chewing about, not playing enough games in Birr, not playing ground hurling, not hitting the ball away quick enough, not sticking to a 6-2-6 formati...

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2023
The merit of having the beaten Joe McDonagh team continuing into Liam MacCarthy will be rightly examined. Offaly were going to struggle anyway. But having to train on for 3 weeks after their season effectively ended on a downer is questionable. In the game Offaly struggled to put on any pressure on ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football Team - Championship 2023
Care to back up your claim with actual examples? my point again "let them develop first"...most other counties have them senior relatively quickly.. mmm..dont like these "challenges" as if to infer one doesnt know what one is talking about, but anyway such is this form - just a ...

Who from the U20s is not being given a fair run?
Several have featured, several have been injured and some have opted out in the short term.

Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2023
Winners play Galway. I reckon Tipp will want to go into the Galway game on the back of a big win, rather than just doing enough to beat Offaly.

Re: Offaly Senior Football Team - Championship 2023
Looking back at the outpouring of emotion after the Meath win. I think mentally the tank was empty after that day. The players had come through a turbulent time and had shown they could rally themselves. But that sort of adrenaline doesn't keep you going for weeks and months. A few months away from ...

Re: U20 hurlers 23
Is it just me, or was there alot of overcarrying missed. And they led to crucial scores for Cork. I keep going back to it, a weak referee had too much of an influence on the game. Yes, overcarrying was missed, but with most refs you get 7 or 8 steps so long as you go in a straight line. Cunningham ...

Re: U20 hurlers 23
Weighing it all up, Cork were going to win this game anyway with their older and highly talented team. I've read lots of comments from Cork lads patting themselves on the back for by winning by showing an 'edge'. This may not be as clever as they think. Imagine if a less generous ref showed red to K...
