Re: First indication of football panel for 2009

Any word how this is going? Anyone else pulled out or added to the squad? With a clear emphasis on change I would like this team to line out; 1) Padraig Kelly - Still gets the jersey if he wants it. About time someone started to challenge him? 2) Ger Rafferty - Was clearly not operating at full tilt...

Re: Congrats to Rhode

Congratulations to Rhode in fairness. Twice Leinster finalists in three years. For the sake of Offaly football a win would be more then timely. It goes without saying though that Kilmacud Crokes are the team to beat. For instance Ray Cosgrove, Kevin Nolan, Paul Griffin, Darren Magee and Mark Vaughan...

Re: The Offaly 1988 All-Ireland U-21 Winning Team

The 1986 final against Cork was played on the second Sunday in September in Thurles. T'was part of a double header with the U21 hurling final where Galway beat Wexford, John Commins coming up from goal to bury a penalty as he did in the senior final seven days previous. The 1988 final was played on...

Re: Ca bhfuil an Loan Shark?

I'd be inclined to disagree that Rhode were in any way at full pelt for the league against Shannonbridge - it was probably Rhode at 50% vs Shannonbridge at 50%, leading to the result that came about. This year's final was Rhode at 90% vs Ferbane at 30% - hence the result we saw. I've no doubt that ...

Re: The Offaly 1988 All-Ireland U-21 Winning Team

Would I be correct in saying that Jimmy Stewart and Mick Devine are the only two still playing :) :?: I know that the two of them would still make a show of a lot of lads half their age :D Who can speak from experience?! By the way I was thinking of Gerry Egan from Ferbane not Gerry Daly. Ronan Caro...

Re: The Offaly 1988 All-Ireland U-21 Winning Team

That's more than a start M.S. fair play. The only two starters first names you're missing (though you probably know yourself) are; Donal O' Neill Niall O' Shea Garret O' Brien :?: What happened to him. I'm aware that Shamrocks fought under two names back then Mucklagh and Rahan circa 1988-1993. Gary...

The Offaly 1988 All-Ireland U-21 Winning Team

Would anyone care to put this team up and subs? It would be great too if someone could show their repective clubs, the panel on the day and a small piece on what happened to each player. I'd know a few myself but nowhere near the team and there might be someone who was at their celebratory night in ...

Re: Ca bhfuil an Loan Shark?

The league is a great way to try out players and for lads to play a a higher level than they may normally get a chance to. There are 10 or 12 games here vs maybe 3-4 c'ship games so there should be more focus here by clubs. I also think that there should be two team dropped from Div 1 and two promo...

Re: Ca bhfuil an Loan Shark?

Do you honestly think that's comparing like with like? I must have missed where Shannonbridge were in the throes of preparing for the Leinster championship back then.... Don't get me wrong - it's disappointing that Ferbane didn't raise a gallop at the weekend, but if you put any senior championship...

Re: First indication of football panel for 2009

Players worth their place at present - Naill, Alan, Shane , Paschal, Niall Darby. Worth a look at in challenges/O'Byrne Cup - Brian Darby, Pauric Sullivan, Eoghan Byrne + Anton Sullivan (maybe too early yet, but will be some talent) Niall McNamee - Starter Alan McNamee - Starter/ Panellist Shane Su...

Re: "Another way of assessing which teams can play senior"

I forgot about this one. I thought you of all people would understand Ritchie's comments L.S.. Maybe you were looking for an argument :D A similar scenario to the one I mentioned exists in Galway. This seems to work well, as their senior teams seem to be as competitive as they come with Caltra, Kile...

Re: Ca bhfuil an Loan Shark?

Again it's the winners mentality. Rhode were dumped out at the Championship semi-final stage in 2007. That was the end of the three in a row. Three or four long years on the trot. Pity time? Party time? Negative. Five or six weeks later Rhode turn up for the league final and give Shannonbridge a sev...

Re: Sean Ryan - Decision Time

I saw the other thread thread was referring to Séan Ryan so I brought this back into play. I can do that :!: By the way I'm not gonna get into the hurling/football debate. A very nice lad I'm just gonna comment on Séan Ryan the footballer. A lot of people believe he should be a starter I just can't ...

Very instinctive finish and so unexpected. Fair play.
Paschal plays or played a fair bit of soccer no? Rhode Celtic :?:

Anton Sullivan

I was just thinking that to the best of my knowledge Sénor Sullivan has played in the Junior B, Junior A and Senior championships in the one year! :?: No mean feat :) In addition he has played minor and under 21 championship as well. That's 5 of the 7 major football championships. Seen him myself a ...
