Is it just me or is this just a typical Kildare reaction to winning? It is almost like they are so aware that they have one of the biggest football pools to pick from in Leinster with the second biggest finances to draw on and still consistently perform below par. It is almost like the relief of act...

I was in Rio about 18 months ago and went to the very spot in the video you are talking about Untouchable. It is in the middle of a place called Lapa and they have street parties there four nights a week. That street is infamous for its drug trade. They sell just about every drug you can think of th...

Ban for life and criminal charges

VIOLENCE on the GAA's club scene is on the agenda again after a Kerry referee at a minor game was "Kung Fu kicked in the stomach" by an irate supporter. This latest example of disgraceful behaviour adds to the growing hall of shame that has embarrassed leading GAA officials in recent weeks...

The reason they weren't winning the Kilkenny championship was James Stephens from the village in Kilkenny city. JS won the All Ireland club title (2?) years ago so there is no doubting their class.

A friend of mine from west Clare claims that Labasheeda Kilmurry McMahon is the biggest parish in Ireland but never backed it up with proof so I can't say for sure.

This is something we are really failing at in the GAA. I was involved in a recruitment drive years ago but never got to referee any games as I was too busy with Uni commitments. There are a few things I would like to see happen: 1. Only the captain of the team should be allowed to talk to the refere...

I have to agree with FFCH about the jersey issue. Most senior teams will get a new set of jerseys every three to four years so why not invert the colours for one print run? I know that club colours are sacred (which is why we see so many LSD inspired amalgated club strips) but at least have an alter...

Its unlikely that we will see somebody like Dr Gerry McEntee play for as long as he did again. I know Brendan Murphy is still hurling but when he finishes in UCD will he still be available to put in the time needed to compete? As the age profile of GAA players drops you will see less and less profes...

Unsurprisingly there is more interest in this series than last year as the Aussies had a whitewash at home. There is a lot of optimism heading into the series so I hope a little Irish hospitality and a couple of suprises from Sean Boylan will lead us to victory. My first reaction was one of relief. ...

International Rules - The Aussie team

The AFL today announced its 24-man squad for the Foster's Australian International Rules Team for the 2006 series to be played in Ireland. The squad, to again be coached by Essendon legend Kevin Sheedy, will be defending the Cormac McAnallen trophy, which was won emphatically 2-0 last year with deci...

I was still delighted after Leinster's win over Munster and when I heard the result on saturday evening my reaction was almost like I expected that to happen. To be honest I don't invest a lot of time in the fortunes of Irish soccer players so when our Irish team win I'm happy for them but it is har...

Conor Evans for New South Wales

The All Australian football state championships are on in Perth at the moment and I was reading this piece when who should pop up other than our own full back in waiting, Conor Evans. In one of the closer and more unpredictable games of the championships so far, Victoria pulled off a win against the...

Good men, I knew it was a pun. There is a dry cleaners in Terenure (I think) that is called "lyknu" that only makes sense when you say what you see much like Roy Walker used to ask you to do.
