Re: Shane Dooley Retirement
It's more of a surprise that Shane lasted this long before retiring, as he had a lot of injury problems in recent years. Shane was a great finisher when he got a sniff of goals, accurate as well and could pick off points from tight angles. In many games, his was the vital score to keep Offaly alive ...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024
Most years Div 3 has: a) a Div 1/2 standard team, briefly lapsing into D3 - Kildare 2016, Armagh in 2017/18, Cork in 2020. b) a newly promoted Div 4 team, shooting upwards that will breeze through - Leix 2019, Derry in 2021, Louth in 2022, Cavan in 2023. In 2024, I don't see any team that are level ...

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023
Glass half full. K-K will regret getting off to a bad start and will take comfort from how they regathered themselves to launch a fightback. If they're ambitious enough, they'll want to bounce back next year and have another tilt at Leinster. However, no one should assume they'll keep getting out of...

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023
This was an impressive win for K-K. The Wexford county final a while back was a typical Wexford mullockfest, where Gorey looked very dogged when they outfought and outlasted Oylegate. With home advantage, a heavy pitch, Sean Cleere reffing it, an Offaly team in any way soft, would have been in bothe...

Re: Offaly Senior Footballers 2024
Fully agree with Jimbob. There have been lots of years in the last 15 years where Offaly have been in the top 3 or 4 teams in Leinster at minor and U20/21. Dublin are the only county significantly better than us in that time. Kildare and Meath a fraction better, but always beatable by a strong Offal...

Re: Club football championship 2023
Hopefully the incident with the referee is swiftly dealt with and an appropriate sanction handed out. No need for a pile-on against the person who will today be regretting his actions. As an aside, as much as we may howl about decisions during a game, once the final whistle goes, remonstrating with ...

Re: Club football championship 2023
If true, that is actually shocking. Drew a game years ago but lost the replay. There hurlers got to a leinster final I’m open to correction, but I think Tullamore’s only Leinster SF win was over the Longford champions a few years back. Correct. I once suggested they had never won a game outside of ...

Re: Offaly Senior Football Team - Championship 2023
The appointment makes sense. Declan won't need to spend the same time learning the scene the way an outside manager would. This helps in the compressed county season calendar. On top of that, there are several players out there who can potentially return to the panel, and Kelly will also have a goo...

Re: hurling all Ireland 2023
It's Limerick's to lose, they've more match winners and can still win if a couple of them are quiet. Kilkenny have no such luxury, everyone will need to play the game of their lives to have a chance. Limerick's only black mark in the last 5 years was surprisingly losing to Kilkenny in 2019. They'll ...

Re: On this day 25 years ago
The problems boiled down to Keating not being fully tuned in to the role, disowning problems and pinning it on the players, public denouncements instead of keeping it in the dressing room and the style of hurling he wanted not suiting Offaly. A few weeks previously he was on the brink of resigning w...
