Re: Offaly Senior Hurlers 2024
I see the senior hurlers have declined a ‘holiday’ and will put the funds (60,000 euro reported) into training. Whether it’s a statement of commitment, intent or just a PR stunt, I applaud the team and all involved. It’s a very positive message. UP OFFALY!!! To be honest, I’m not so sure it’s a goo...

Superb news this morning that JP McManus is to donate €1m to each county board. https://www.sportsjoe.ie/gaa/much-jp-mcmanus-donation-worth-every-club-ireland-178743 Joe.ie article from 2018 stating that each Offaly club got €2,439 back when each county board received €100,00. Re: JP McManus donation
It'll make little or no difference in the long run I fear. Clubs will squander the money on managers, performance coaches, statisticians and God knows what else for their adult teams. Some of the figures been handed to managers is truely appalling. It surely can't be sustainable. I’ll send on our I...

Re: End of year hurling standings
[/quote] On the point about the changing of the minor grades, there I was flat out wrong. I saw the motion that was up for debate, I knew it passed, and I missed the bit about delaying it for a year. So my apologies for tha t, I already had one club selector ringing me in a small bit of distress ab...

Re: Offaly Senior A Hurling Championship 2023
Two very contrasting styles, kk with no plan, just hit the ball up the field. OLG played the ball smart, to the man. Did Adam screeney hit the ball in open play? Not his fault as there seemed like no plan to give him the ball he needed. Kk mgt very poor and the lack of tactics with such a talented ...

Re: New club football format
Why was it not advised to the clubs beforehand so they could have meaningful discussions at club level and the delegates would vote thereafter on the club’s decision (similar to rhr u17/18 vote). It meant the the delegates were asked to vote on something that had not been discussed or advised in adv...

Re: New club football format
I’d say that this decision will come back to bite Michael Duignan when he runs for president.
Whilst it’ll only take one year for everyone to realise what a ridiculous structure it is, I don’t think it’ll be forgotten in a year.

Re: New club football format
I presume the 4 losing Q-Finalists go into the relegation semi-finals?? If so, we could have the farcical situation where a team wins it’s group and gets relegated!! Everyone qualifying is the adult version of a primary school sports day. While it does seem a bit nonsensical, it does favour rhe sma...

Re: Changing of Underage grades and Separation from adult
Only way this will work is if Offaly decide to completely preclude U18s from playing adult - or at least are not allowed play adult until minor team is exited from championship. They need to decouple underage from adult level or there will be serious issues over fixtures. Any other way is recipe fo...
