Club Camogie Question

Great to see 2 Offaly clubs in the Leinster finals this year. A quick question for those who may know. With Rynaghs and Raharney having won the 2020 All Irelands at their grades, why are they still playing at the same grade level again this year? In the mens game, that would push the county reps int...

Re: Offaly Senior Football Championship 2021

Well done to Tullamore. Definitely deserved their win. I realise that Tullamore have won the last 2 under 20s, but I still don't see any team dominating in the same way Rhode have over the last few years. Would it shock anyone over the next 5 years if we had at least 3 different winners of the Dowli...

Re: Offaly Senior Football Championship 2021

We are set up for another fascinating game on Sunday. In the context of the match the red was 100% the right call the last match. Given the flare up just a few minutes earlier the ref was always going to stamp his authority on proceedings next chance he got - and rightly so. If I was Rhode boss id b...

Re: Club Hurling championship

I see that 'Cloghan' won the u15 football championship well this week. Great to see diversity in the winners of the underage competitions. Curious to know why the team name is Cloghan? Is it separate from St. Rynaghs or Rynaghs football by a different name? Is it an amalgamation/mixture of a few cl...

Re: Offaly Senior Football Championship 2021

We got the outcome that most expected this weekend with another Rhode v Tullamore county final. Couple of observations: 1. Looking at the goals that both teams scored this weekend, the final will likely come down to who can limit the other teams' key weapon the best. Can Tullamore prevent Rhode from...

Re: Club Hurling championship

While looking at the different competitions/groups last night it is startling how much Kilcormac are dominating every age group from u20 to u13. They are dishing out absolute hammerings across the board. Any insights as to what they are doing that others are not?

Re: SHC Round 5 Venue Roulette

In addition to the hammerings, it also presents such a safety net for the other senior clubs. Having a bad year - don’t worry we’ll be grand and we’ll go again next year. I think 8 teams per Division is better personally. Senior is competitive in every match. Threat of relegation is real for several...

Re: Club Hurling championship

Curious from a participation point of view how amalgamation impacts overall playing numbers. I get that it will Improve the quality of the first team, and give more chance of winning. As the years roll on, I wonder how a lad that might be a starter on the football team with Raheen and would have bee...

Re: Club Hurling championship

I spent 20 mins looking at this year's adult hurling championship in Offaly as I am always curious about participation levels in the sport. Here is the summary. There are 21 hurling clubs with 45 teams across all divisions in total (I am not counting Clareen's 3rd team as they didn't fulfill any fix...

Re: O'Connor Park lease debacle

It seems pretty obvious that one of the things the current county board did upon taking office was look at the expense bill for OCP and set out to immediately cut that and get a better deal (fair enough). They did this by going for a classic negotiating tactic of an extreme starting point (make no p...

Re: Club Hurling championship

11 point average winning margain over the 5 senior matches in Round 1. Not going to jump to any conclusions after one round, but it is a worrying start. Too often in the past, we had too many games where the outcome was known before the game started. It leads to teams being able to pick and choose w...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2021

While delighted to gain promotion to D1 I have a feeling that 2A was just so weak this year that it is hard to tell how much we have progressed. Carlow and Kerry seem to be a few steps below what they were in recent years and the other teams in the division are just not very good in general. Teams a...

Re: Div 3 South predictions & general comment

Yes, what we need. A few thousand spectators urging Offaly to kick the ball away to the opposition. And growling when Offaly do just that. I really wonder if there is a connection between the 'closed doors' and Offaly's good 2021 form in all four codes. Pat, you need to change who you are standing ...

Re: Offaly Hurling 2021

Not an ideal format for any competition with having one group with only one game and the other with 3 games. By my calculations, it will take 6 weekends to run the competition this way - 3 for the group, 1 for the 1/4 finals, 1 1/2 finals, 1 finals. If it had all been one group with top 2 to final a...
