Re: Qualifier draws
I'd give our lads a chance against Limerick, in fact I'm actually looking forward to it. Limerick are no Kilkenny and if they can keep out the goals the longer they stay in the match. I don't think I'm a fantasist though!! Anyway with the two draws involving our senior teams only a pure fantasist wo...

Under 21 final venue
A pity that, but we'll have to live with it now. At least it's still a home venue.

Clinical Cats Destroy Dubs
Defending Leinster under 21 champions Dublin were no match for a hungry Kilkenny at Parnell Park yesterday evening. Kilkenny were in devastating form and were on top in practically every position on the field. Dublin struggled to gain any sort of possession at all. For a team who have been so adept ...

Some random thoughts
That was a relief to get that result. Phew. I didn’t think it was a convincing display but I suppose the pressure was really on to get a win last night and as they say a win is a win. I thought the match against Carlow stood to Offaly. Wexford made the kind of half time reshuffle you’d expect from a...

Under 21 hurling - Offaly v Wexford
Not a preview per se as I know nothing about the Wexford side. A big step up for Offaly under 21’s to hurl Wexford having beaten Carlow in the last round. Offaly will hardly have the same physical advantage they enjoyed that evening four weeks ago. Incidentally, the Carlow team were a huge disappoin...

Division 1 semi final - James Stephens' v Patrickswell
I was at the Feile semi final in Rath yesterday evening between James Stephens’ and Patrickswell. It was a superb game of hurling with ne’er a bad hurler between the two clubs. Stephens’ as you’d expect had all the Kilkenny hallmarks in abundance, style and craft throughout the field. James Stephens...

Qualifier venues
I’d say a home hurling qualifier would be held at OCP. It’s GAA headquarters who decide that, not the Offaly board.

Adherance to ground hurling is killing Offaly
At the risk of being boringly repetitive, I feel the adherence to ground hurling is killing hurling in the county. Regular readers will know my opinions on this, but for the benefit of the newer contributors – read on. Offaly perfected their ground hurling game in the 1980’s when nobody was playing ...

Re: Over the Black Spot
Some very interesting points there, OTBS, and I am generally in agreement with your observations therein. I’d that while Aidan Fogarty had the greater experience of club management it was his proposed backroom team that was his downfall. Incidentally, where did Flaherty make those comments? Was it o...

Re: Hurling Rules being ignored
I’ll deal with these three points if I may. I must admit it took me a few times to cop Shefflin’s throw even when watching on television. While strictly speaking ‘throwing’ the ball is outlawed, obviously a hurler has to ‘throw’ the ball up to hit it. Some hurlers have in recent years taken the rule...

Where do we go from here?
The match has been well summed up in the posts made during the day and I don’t have much to add. Another second half collapse and it’s difficult to reconcile that Offaly scored six points in each half despite contrasting fortunes. As stated earlier the defence generally hurled well during the first ...

Kilkenny team just announced
Ryan; Kavanagh, JJ Delaney, Tyrrell; Walsh, Hogan, Dalton; Fitzpatrick, Fennelly; Comerford, Rice, Larkin; Hogan, Shefflin, Brennan. Hickey doesn't make it so JJ goes to full back with John Dalton coming in. No obvious weaklinks, as you'd expect. At this stage I'd play Oakley at wing back marking Co...
