Re: 2014 WALSH Cup

Can anyone point out a valid reason that Birr can't hold Walsh cup / league games? (1) With regard to league games, as of now, they're not allowed. That may change, but it's up to Birr to get it changed by convincing the county board why they should fight for it. All I've heard is schyte about &quo...

Re: 2014 WALSH Cup

The simple fact is and I think both sides are in agreement on this. Birr and it's surroundings are the traditional hurling heartland whilst tullamore the football heartland. This has slightly changed with the emergence of KK and the amalgamation of some north based clubs at underage level. But if Of...

Re: Ollie Baker

I think there is generally a lack of appetite from a lot of people involved. The county board have been making sub par appointments for about 15 years at senior and underage level. This has led to bad results which has led to a lack of interest from players which has led to worse results. To change ...

Re: U21 hurling v Kilkenny, Wednesday June 26th, Tellamore

BOTN I think your being a little bit harsh in your analysis of how we lost it. We were definately stretched in the last 10 minutes fitness-wise. You were looking at a KK team with a few athletes who could kick on in the last 10 minutes. Your point regarding our midfielders reading the breaking ball...

Re: U21 hurling v Kilkenny, Wednesday June 26th, Tellamore

No it's not a great effort were after throwing this match away. We seem to like giving away really stupid frees for absolutely no reason, so frustrating to watch! I count 4 frees 2 either side of half time which were all pointed. Kilkenny really couldn't score from play so it was just stupid tackles...

Re: Underage scores

Physicality matters an awful lot more at U12 / U14 level. I remember seeing a team from my own club get hockeyed at that age but the went on to win minor. Children progress physically at different ages and this tends to even out by minor grade at which stage real skill and technique are more importa...

Re: Allianz-Hurling-league 1B

BOTN, as one of KBs critics in an earlier post, I’ll repeat my earlier commendation of his decision to give it another year especially given the retirements and loss of Horan and Eanna Murphy to the half back line options. Maybe it’s my own bee-in-me-bonnet about lads driving aimless ball from my p...

Re: Allianz-Hurling-league 1B

Lads seen this on setanta, a few thoughts The offaly team especially in the forward line were to put it bluntly running around like headless chickens! I don't know how many times I seen 3-4 offaly players chasing the one player back...only for that one Dublin player to handpass it back to where the ...

Re: Brendan Murphy retires

Best of luck to brendan on his retirement, he was part (just) of the golden era & always has given everything for club and county. He unfortunately never had the team around him to win the medals his talent deserved.

Re: All Ireland Club Hurling Championship 2012-2013

A good win for KK down there, Carlow can be a very tough destination in the death of winter and a healthy 5 point win should be a good lift to them. Their next outing against Rathdowney Errill is at home in Tullamore, however the ground I think will suit the rathdowney style of play so lots to be wo...

Re: Clubs in the doldrums

Just add my three cents here...what is the aim of joining clubs together? If the aim is to give players an opportunity to play that they wouldnt otherwise have then it is a good idea...what appears to be happening at the moment is that clubs who for whatever reason are not currently competing at the...

Re: Video Analysis - Offaly v Galway

the Limerick game in 2006 in tullamore was poor, but why did the same offaly team beat a better Limerick side in 2008 out the gate in limerick i feel the squad has gone way back under Baker their first touch and striking were brutal and sunday was a lovely day so the weather played no part. we play...

well that was terrible! How Diarmuid Horan, David Kenny & Conor Mahon stayed as long as they did i dont know. They just werent up to it today for whatever reason. Thank god Rory Hanniffy was centre back he covered the backline time & time again. This is not a great galway team we gifted them...

Re: Offaly Vs Wexford 2/6/12 Leinster Championship

First off well done to the team, it was extremely worrying that we again didnt finish the game well, I cant remember offaly finishing a game well over the last number of years except maybe galway in croke park a few years ago. Contrast this with the 1990s when it was a trademark of the county team. ...

Re: What wrong and whats right in Offaly gaa

I think this is always going to be a contentious issue to be honest. The reason the go games were introduced was to bring up participation in hurling. However for a lot of hurling clubs, mainly the rural ones. This is simply not an issue. In my own club Coolderry you would be hard pressed to find a ...
