Re: A hundred years ago . . .
Daingean was originally named Philipstown in 1556 when it was established as the county town in the land that was planted by Queen Mary Tudor in the newly-shired King’s County. The town and the county was so named after her husband, Philip II of Spain, King consort of Ireland. The town was once the...

Re: Offaly vs. Meath - Leinster MFC
Will ye get your effin' High Horse before you make a fool of yourself! Who says there are minimum standards of attendance in order to call yourself an Offaly fan? You know nothing about the circumstances of most of the other members of this Forum. There are any number of valid reasons why anyone can...

Re: Offaly Vs Meath this sunday
I really do not want to be picking on individual player's performances or efforts at playing the game. I fully respect these guys are amateurs and anyone can have an off-day (I probably never had an ON-day when playing myself) . So Niall Darby's problems should have been relieved from his responsibi...

Re: Offaly Vs Meath this sunday
Like leinsterman, my young lads game ran late so I didn't make it down either. I considered a late dash to catch the second half. Glad I didn't as I would have missed the only good play we did. Random thoughts in no particular order: * I will do that Golf Course short cut again if it gives me a chan...

Jeez, the accuracy of that YouTube thingey is uncanny. How did it know my shotgun looked just like that.
No wait .... I've got the Tartan trousers like the other guy. Oh Sh1t!

Re: Offaly Vs Meath this sunday
Because my son's Hurling Team is playing a match at 12 noon on Sunday, and it's bound to run late, I know I'll be racing to get to this in Portlaoise on time, if at all. And I reckon most of the Royals will be coming down the Dublin Road from the same direction as myself. :? Soooooooo ....... Anyone...

Offaly Team named
From BreakingNews.ie http://new.breakingnews.ie/sport/mcmanus-included-in-offaly-line-up-458501.html Offaly’s Ciaran McManus will take part in his 15th Championship campaign, after the Tubber clubman has been handed a midfield role for this Sunday's Leinster SFC tie against Meath at O'Moore Park (2p...

Re: Public information message - Time to wash the jersies.
What's Sean Óg O'hAilpín doing with that test-tube? I thought he worked for a Bank. Trying on the jersey after almost a year is also a sobering reminder of just how much weight you've obviously put on in the meantime. But since the jersey still looks as good as new (having only worn it a few times i...

Re: Laochra Gael – Na Comhlintí, Déardaoin, 8ín ar TG4
I had forgotten how many goals Kerry "threw" into the net in 1980. Looking back on them now, those types of goals really were pathetic and were an indictment to whoever brought in that rule in the first place. It's good that Offaly relied on authentic genuine quality goals. Also int...

Phew! This had me worried for a minute
(Heads Up - this is not really of a Sporting Nature, but then we've broadened our horizons a few times before) There was me worried for a minute that our National Theatre had got so desperate for events that they were venturing almost into "Pure Mule" territory. But when I saw mention of ...

Re: Hurling Relegation play off
When I was going to the back of the stand of Parnell Park this man walked by and give me a free ticket. It said "VIP Enclosure" and "Ard Comhairle" on it. I took the freebie but it certainly wasn't right that most people paid €20 in. I steered clear of the VIP Enclosure and took...

Re: Hurling Relegation play off
Ah sure I found the place no problem. It was grand being able to park in the School grounds at the front. It wasn't really much of a match. Pretty poor standard of Hurling especially by the Glensmen. Offaly were always in control in most sectors. Brian Carroll stood out of the forwards, but I wont d...

Re: Hurling Relegation play off
The ones with the biggest justified grievance has to be Wexford. Compared to all the others, they actually won a match, beating us in the Leinster Quarterfinal. Their reward for that has been to get an even harder Qualifer draw than was even possible for us to get, i.e. against a corresponding semi-...

Re: Offaly Cork 1999
I remember much more about the 2000 match than the 1999 version. I echo the sentiments mentioned above about the "Langers" on the Hill. 2000 was a very sweet feeling. Jayz, I'm away this weekend. I'll have to dig out an oul' video tape and see if I can rememeber how to record a TV programm...
