Re: Offaly v Laois NHL Round 1 26/2/12
Always good to get a win to start the league. Regarding the Coolderry lads making the team/panel, it seems a little strange to me when lads talk about them having to prove themselves. Of course they have to prove themselves, the same as every other player on the panel, but they shouldn't be punished...

Re: AFL Trials
I suppose the main source of disappointment for a lot of people who are anti this type of recruitment is that the ones who are picked by the AFL are the ones that are less likely to be lost to a barstool. They are the ones that are coming up through the ranks and have been earmarked by the county as...

Re: all ireland club hurling championship
As an aside here, I was pretty surprised with the situation in the Intermediate hurling championship at the weekend. Not so much by the fact that the Carlow team won but by the fact that the Armagh team were so close to winning. I would rate MLR from Carlow as an excellent club team and would say th...

Re: Offaly vs Roscommon NFL Div 3 12th February 2012
Then perhaps you're not the best man to come up with solutions if that's how you feel. I've never felt anything but hugely proud and fortunate to be a native of Ferbane and Offaly and if we saw our players showing that kind of defeatist attitude, we'd never forgive them. Eh, were you at the Offaly ...

Don't agree with your rational at all but not interested in getting into a debate about it here any further, as I like your posts and value your contributions to the forum, so I don't want to seem like I was having a go at you personally.
Keep up the good work!

Re: all ireland club hurling championship
Hunger is everything. One team will strain the sinews marginally more than the other, and they will win. Item: Last year's inter-county All-Ireland final. Who'd have thought Tipperary would be so flat on the day? They were mad for it the year before. I dont agree that hunger is everything. Hunger i...

Re: all ireland club hurling championship
Hunger will decide this. And when we review the match afterwards we will see that one team went to fight a war; the other went to confirm their passage to the Final, and that the former will prevail. 'hungrier team' has to be up there with the most overused GAA cliches of all time - usually followe...

Re: offaly senior hurling squad 2012
Looking forward to the year ahead. I am encouraged by a few things: 1. I read the interview with Baker in the weekend papers - and he said that he was building on what Joe Dooley had done and was not starting from scratch. That is good to hear. I really hate when a manager comes in, brings in 8 U21s...

Re: o byrne cup vs kildare
Family member was at the game yesterday and speaking to him after, it was pretty clear that he had just witnessed 2 teams that were on a completely different level than one another in every aspect of the game. Obviously on the day, failing to score for the entire first half is terrible and there is ...

Re: Lost in the Bog
Probably not a bad year to try it, if they are going to ever trial it, seeing as there is 1 less team in Senior this year. Obviously there are some logistics and fixtures stuff to sort out, but I haven't seen anything that I would see as a major roadblock that couldn't be dealt with, if the will is ...

Re: Players Of The Year
I don't agree with you Bazza. The Under21 award is for the best player in the U21 Championship matches - what someone did in a different grade should not count for the award in question.
Well done to all of the winners - a nice one for the mantlepiece!

Re: No competition for CB positions!!
That's the type of positive attitude we need in this country. We are not 69K worse off than we were last year, we are 12K less worse off at the end of this financial year, than we were at the end of the year before that...that's a good thing, right? I won't be able to get the paper this week, but do...

Re: Ferbane/Bemont Underage
I see that the minors got well beaten in the Leinster Semi Final against, from what I hear, a very good Celbridge side. However, I also hear that Ferbane were missing a few. Just wondering who was missing and what would the expectations be if both teams were at full strength? Still, some year all ro...

I don't know why you are quoting my post and then asking why people would feel sorry for him. The purpose of my post was to voice my opinion that political topics should not be discussed on this forum. I did this and am happy that I did. (I am also aware of the irony in replying on this thread, as i...

Re: Brian Cowen's legacy of failure as Taoiseach
Personally, I don't think that this thread should be on this website, as I don't believe that it has anything to do with GAA in Offaly. There are plenty of other forums out there to discuss politics in Ireland. This forum usually gives me an outlet away from all of the political news (which went int...
